Our communal house is a six bedroom, three bath building located on 40 acres of bucolic woods. The house is fully furnished with ample community space, including an open concept kitchen/dining area, spacious living room, and several porches and decks. Each bedroom is equipped with a writing desk, while bed size varies by room. The house is equipped with high speed internet, but cell service can be spotty. Residents will have full access to the full acreage, as well as a couple outbuildings (a craft studio and a refurbished schoolhouse) on the property. Food is provided, and there is a communal dinner prepared for residents every evening. All utilities are also included. We are an active residency, so other rooms in the house will usually be rented out to artists and writers for two weeks to a month. This is an excellent chance to meet other creators in a relaxed, communal environment.
There are three steps leading up to the main entrance. There are two bedrooms on the ground floor and four bedrooms upstairs. There are hiking trails throughout the property.
This is a great space for those looking for a retreat in a peaceful rural setting. Our property is quiet and serene, and the house is structured to provide both productive solitude and enriching social time.
The property owner, Tom, has been cultivating the property since the mid 90’s, and most of the buildings have been built or refurbished by Tom using lumber and stone from the property itself. I am a permanent resident of sorts, and have been living on the property and coordinating residencies since 2024. I am a poet and book maker, and I love to talk writing, exchange books, and help with creative projects. I also cook dinner every evening.
We are seeking playful, creative, thoughtful people who want to live in community with other artists and writers. We value quiet, respectful cohabitation and mindful living. We also like to have a good time, take day trips to the surrounding enclaves, and occasionally play a raucous round of cards. A little bit of alcohol is permissible, but nothing in excess.
Tom and I both have our own domiciles on the property, but we eat meals and spend social time at the main house.
We prefer to rent our space on a monthly basis, with an option for longer rentals for the right person.
At this time, we do not allow pets on the property.
We require a non-refundable $100 deposit. We rent rooms in the main house on a sliding scale of $750-$1000/a month depending on choice of room, which includes food as well as utility costs. We understand how difficult it is to balance finances as a working artist, so we try to keep our rates as low as possible.
