About this Lister

I have been teaching in Brooklyn since 1992, and have a wealth of experience to share.
My musical journey started in Australia, where I studied classical music as a child, and always was experimenting with improvisation and playing by ear as well.
Later, after working as a jazz musician for a decade, I moved to New York, and began the studies which have inspired me since.
I enjoy passing on all I have learned to my students.

Background and Expertise

In my work with classical pianists, I draw on the musical ideas of Sophia Rosoff and Abbey Whiteside, who emphasized natural ways to connect with the ear and the body to express freely. For jazz, I studied with bebop master Barry Harris, whose rhythmic, melodic and harmonic ideas are fundamental to a deep understanding of jazz.
Previous qualifications include the Australian Music Associate Diploma in classical performance (A.Mus.A)
and the Associate Diploma of Jazz Studies (ADJS) from the New South Wales Conservatorium of Music, Australia.
