In NYC for the summer? Learn music!
Hello! My name is Sara, and I am a professional musician and fellow Listings Project member.
This summer, I am offering introductory one-hour music lessons for $60. Explore piano, voice, guitar, or music theory. Work on your songwriting, or learn about music production and orchestration.
In-person lessons are offered in Chelsea during the week, with afternoon and evening times available.
Online lessons are offered via FaceTime or Google Meet.
Students will enjoy lessons with a supportive and caring teacher. During the intro lesson, we will discuss your musical goals and make a plan for future study. I will offer feedback on your skills and we will learn ways to improve technique and musicianship.
Students who are getting ready to audition for the NYC performing arts high schools and middle schools are encouraged to reach out early regarding audition prep. It is important to start training in vocal technique and musicianship well ahead of the audition and take the time to find the right repertoire for your voice!
I am an award-winning singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. My performances have ranged from bluegrass venues in Montreal to New York’s Lincoln Center and the Library of Congress.
Performing solo and with bands and off-Broadway productions are some of my favorite ways of expressing myself musically. I have also been enjoying my foray into the world of YouTube music videos!
My studies include both classical and jazz training from schools as varied as Juilliard, Hunter College, the Yale School of Music, and the NYC Drummer’s Collective. I have over 15 years of experience teaching students to play and sing. I don’t discriminate against genres, and my students have played a wide a variety of music, from Bach to Romanian folk music to Rihanna, Jim Croce, Mozart, Steely Dan, and more.
Students of mine have gone on to professional performance careers, and have successfully passed auditions to enter the high school or college of their choice. Most importantly, my students have fun and get to work on their creativity and musicianship, and explore their artistic potential.
Please reach out for references and recommendations from current and past students!
