Transportation

From Manhattan: 90 minutes by car, or 2 hours by bus + a 20 minute Uber.

2 bedrooms are available for renewable 2-6 month leases. Dates are flexible.

The Pearl is a queer feminist nature sanctuary situated on 6 acres of beautiful, secluded woodlands in the Pocono Mountains. 90 minutes northwest of Manhattan.

The intention for the space is to co-create a vibrant, warm, collaborative community. The vibe is that we're here in part because of each other, not despite.

The house features an open kitchen and dining room with floor-to-ceiling windows and panoramic forest views. It has a large, bright living room with cathedral ceilings and a working fireplace. The space is also full of musical instruments — all of which you are welcome to play.

The house also has a cozy nook for screening films, as well as a front and back deck that are excellent for yoga, sunbathing, and outdoor dining. An ample mudroom has plenty of space for all your comings and goings, and there are 2 full bathrooms – one on each of the two floors.

The finished basement has a cozy log cabin vibe and features three of the bedrooms (the Green Room, Black Room, and my room.)

The other two bedrooms are upstairs on the main level.

You would have 4 housemates, including myself. We all split our time between the country and the city at different rhythms.

The house is nestled deep in the woods, far from traffic or other houses. It truly is an incredibly special gem!

Who:

I’m looking for responsible, trustworthy, excellent communicators who will act as stewards of the home and of the community vibe.

This place is ideal for folks who are:

• Socially graceful, cooperative and conscientious.
• Community oriented, yet self-reliant.
• Interested in building a colorful, warm little community here at The Pearl.

This is not just a room rental, it is a community, so please be absolutely sure that you are interested in both the work and rewards involved in maintaining harmony in a home shared with 4 people. This includes monthly house meetings (sometimes business, sometimes fun) and chores. It can be a very rewarding lifestyle for the right person.

About This Lister

Hi! I’m Simi (she/her.) I’m a black queer feminist in my late thirties. I freelance as a facilitator, artist, and consultant. I’ve lived in Brooklyn for 12 years, and I just started splitting my time between there and upstate.

I bought this house last summer. I’ve spent the last several months pouring my whole heart into renovating it with the vision of creating a peaceful, uplifting, inspiring space to build community within the beauty of nature.

And now, I’m very excited to finally share it!

I travel a lot and I have a lot of commitments in the city, so I’m only at the house around 7-10 days a month.

My interests include dance, community building, circlesinging, ecology, womxn’s liberation, collaborative art projects, and designing spaces.

When I’m upstate I do a lot of hiking in the woods, morning yoga on the deck, and tons of reading/writing.

I’m a “bubbly introvert”, so although I do my own thing most of the time, I also like to be intentional about spending quality time with community.

As a housemate, I value communication and conscientiousness, keeping our home fairly neat and clean, and maintaining a kind and welcoming environment. Toward that end, I like to have regular (~monthly) check-ins to keep things running smoothly and address any small challenges proactively.
