I've lived here 20+ yrs and love it. I know all my neighbors. I love that it's so close to the Park and subway, and a great supermarket. I enjoy cooking and forage in the park for ingredients. I paint, do carpentry and and generally enjoy creating things. And I'm studying Korean!
If you cook you'll love the kitchen. It's big and sunny, with fresh herbs, extensive spice rack, and all the utensils and equipment you're likely to need.
There are great restaurants - Thai, Japanese, Korean, Mediterranean, as well as cool bars & coffee shops. The supermarket is big and carries pretty much anything you'd want, including fresh fish, interesting cheeses, international supplies and organic produce.
The HUGE advantage is that the subway station is right across the street (but you won't hear it). Express line into the city. China town 15 min, Union Sq 20, Midtown 25. If you're a beach person, Brighton Beach and Coney are a half hr ride the other way.
PLG is a diverse, historic neighborhood with beautiful architecture, unique features, and beautiful Prospect Park right on the doorstep. Take a picnic, sit by the lake, stroll the many trails past little waterfalls, enjoy the impromptu buskers, or jazz concerts. There's a cafe in the Boathouse. Saturdays the Farmer's Market is at Grand Army Plaza. Sunday in the park (with or without George) is Smorgasburg - 'the largest open-air food market in America'. Or just walk around the neighborhood, looking at the buildings, stopping at coffee shops. Best of both worlds. PLG is the place to be
