$850
Available August 1st
Location: Newburgh, NY
Transportation: car with limited public transit. Street parking is always readily available (even on street cleaning days!).
Utilities: cost varies a lot based on usage. I would want someone who is down to be conscious of how we use electricity during the hotter/colder months. Would love to work to set up agreements about this.
1 room available in a 2 bedroom 1 bath apartment. The unfurnished room is big enough to comfortably fit a queen bed, a desk, and a bookshelf/dresser (the high ceiling makes it feel so roomy!). The room has various cozy nooks, a good closet, and a corner window that brings soft light into the room.
You would be sharing the rest of the house with me and my service dog Arre: comfortable bathroom, sun-filled kitchen, convenient washer and dryer, a comfy projector and library room, a flourishing garden and a beautiful living room with a view to Downing park and the lake. The house is furnished, the kitchen has lots of pots and pans and tools that you’ll be welcomed to use. Please note that my office is a small space off the living room, I work from home and at times the living room will not be available while I work because as an interpreter I need silence and a private space. The apartment is a second-floor walk-up. There are 2 apartments in the building, the downstairs neighbor is lovely and often travels so lots of times it’s just us in the building. The apartment and garden are only accessible through stairs. The apartment is situated across the street from the gorgeous Downing Park and it is wonderful to be able to cross the street and enjoy its beauty. The park is truly magical during all 4 seasons.
About me: My name is chivi. I’ve lived in Newburgh in this apartment for a bit under 2 years. I’m still working to get more connected to Newburgh because being connected to community is really important to me. I am an interpreter, translator, educator and artist. I am gender fluid and queer, I’m an immigrant, and I have an invisible disability. I love to cook and share meals, and I also know how to respect boundaries. I’m a direct communicator and will try my best to support my housemate to feel comfortable in our home. I love to garden, walk in the park with Arre, go on adventures to nature, fancy coffee shops, bookstores, thrift stores, the beach or any body of water and facebook marketplace deals!
About Arre: Arre is a 4-year-old standard poodle. He is a service dog and the biggest blessing. He has claimed the projector room as “his” room so he will happily snuggle while watching movies. He loves to rip cardboard, run in the park, and pretend he’s giving you a toy but never letting you grab it. He is loving and smart and when he runs and his ears flop in the wind you can’t help but smile.
About you: You’re a considerate and responsible person. You have a way to consistently pay your portion of rent/bills. You are queer and trans affirming. You are comfortable with having a big dog around and on common furniture. You are a good direct communicator. You like your home to be warm and clean. You are down to care for our home collectively and also with flexibility, trusting that we’re each doing our best to care for our home and communicating when something needs to be done. You know how to respect boundaries and articulate your own boundaries.
Please respond to this posting telling me a bit about yourself. If it seems like a good fit we can go from there to schedule a showing. One month's deposit, and first month's rent as a requirement to move in.
