TLDR: I'm looking for a swap or sublet—your apt in Brooklyn, NY for my house in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica right near all the amazing surf breaks and yoga spots. I'm looking in June, but also open to July/August. Also open to subletting my house instead of a swap!
If you're interested in a swap, I'm looking for a place in Brooklyn (preferably Williamsburg/Greenpoint/Ft. Greene area) for June or July.
ABOUT THE HOUSE:
I live in a sweet, one-bedroom house in Santa Teresa, a beautiful ex-pat friendly beach town on the Nicoya Peninsula. You need a 4x4 to reach the house—you can rent a car, a motorcycle, or my Honda 4-wheeler :)
The house is a 5-minute drive up an unpaved hill from the main road. Less than 6 minutes to several amazing surf breaks, 4 minutes from an ocean-view yoga deck, 5 minutes to a wonderful grocery store, 4 minutes from the best sushi spot in town, etc.
The house has it all—a washer/dryer, security cameras, WiFi, a huge, comfy king-sized bed, a covered back patio where you can work (and spot monkeys, iguanas, hummingbirds, etc.), AC in the primary bedroom which cools the entire house. It also gets professionally cleaned once a week!
SOME IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE ON JUGLE LIVING:
If you're scared of bugs, this isn't the spot for you. There are occasionally ants or small spiders that get in the house.
May is the start of rainy season, which typically entails one good, heavy rain at night. The power very occasionally goes out —if it does, there are spots on town with generators in case you have an important call or a busy work day. There are also two co-working spaces in town.
Despite all of that, it's magical here, You wake up every day to the sound of birds singing. You'll get the best sleep of your life and your nervous system will naturally reset. People tend to fall in love with this place. It's pretty special!
ABOUT THE TOWN: It's small with one main road, but we've got a lot of good stuff here. Reformer studios, yoga decks, a strength training gym, great coffee shops and boutiques, some sodas (typical Costa Rican restaurants), and lots of other good restaurants. The beaches are beautiful, we have 4-5 different surf breaks for different levels. Lots of expats, digital nomads, and spiritual folks.
You'll get by just fine with English, though I have a great, affordable Spanish teacher you should use while you're here. We have normal grocery stores but I prefer to buy my fruits and veggies from a Saturday farmers market all grown by local farmers. I buy fresh tuna directly from a fisherman (it's about $11 per kilo!) and grass-fed beef directly from a local supplier. I'll give you all their contact info + connect you to the local WhatsApp groups.
i'm a freelance writer and filmmaker. Before moving to Costa Rica, I spent 8 years in NYC. I still travel back and forth often and need to spend a few months there this summer.
I love to surf, read, write, eat, and host dinner parties. If these dates don't work for you, let's stay in touch because I travel all the time.
