This property is a carefully curated and lovely home, built in 1799, that operates as a popular short-term rental during the summer season. It is a family home that is much loved and cared for, and very recently renovated.

The property sits on two acres and receives great light. There is ample yard space and a wonderful set of gardens: the yard has been landscaped with native species and lovingly cultivated. We replaced a large lawn with a meadow to attract pollinators. This home is also very private.

There is one set of neighbors (who are great) across the street, and they are happy to leave you alone-- thought they will also help you out in a pinch.

We love to host conscientious mid-term and long-term tenants during the fall/winter/spring. We welcome pets if they are carefully supervised and well cared for.

There is a 1 BR apartment attached to the main house that has a separate entrance and is also a rental. In all my years of airbing both spaces, no one has complained about noise from the adjoining property.

Scarborough's public school system is excellent for a variety of reasons I am more than happy to elaborate upon if you are curious.

The best thing about this property is how it is secluded and yet close to anything you might need. Portland is a 15-minute drive away. There are several trails and beaches on which to walk your dogs or take a walk (or run) by yourself. The house is about 10 - 15 minutes from two grocery stores, the mall, a Costco, and the airport.

Above all, it is quiet. The road in front of the house can get a little zippy. (What once was a country road is now a popular road that seems to invite speeding given its scenic and winding nature.)

We are happy to take you on a Facetime tour of the property if you're interested.

About This Lister

Greetings! My name is Cate Marvin (she/her) and I am a professor of English and Creative Writing. I am 55 years old, and I have owned this property since 2017. It would be fair to say that renovating it has been my obsession for some years. What started out as a beige, carpeted, country-kitchen monstrosity is now an eclectic and warm space with hardwood floors, original art, homemade curtains, and MC furniture.

I have been a Super Host for the past three years and have consistently received five-star ratings. Having stayed in vacation rentals that have disappointed (and even appalled), I bring my perfectionist tendencies to my hosting and aim to curate a special experience. It makes me happy when guests have enjoyed the space. It helps me feel connected to my fello humans!

At this time, my teenager and I are living outside the country as he finishes his remaining two years of high school. My husband, Hutch (he/him), has remained in the area and will be the person who you deal with in person. He is a social worker, an animal lover, and an overall amazing person.
