Looking for a new roommate to share a really nice, sunny apartment. My departing roommate is a Harvard Education grad student!
Room can be unfurnished or furnished. If furnished, includes large corner L-shaped desk and bed seen in photos, as well as a small dresser or two. Happy to have you bring your own stuff that you like better :)
The Building:
Five-story building just above Cambridge Common Park and across the street from Harvard Law School. Five steps to enter the building; main building has an elevator. Basement laundry room (paid via app) is in the basement with three washers and three dryers. Property manager is responsive to problems (so far, just a toilet that leaked). For Harvard Square, it is surprisingly easy to park on our block.
The Apartment:
The apartment is officially a 2-bedroom, but my bedroom is in the formal dining room so you will have your choice of either of the two regular bedrooms. One has two closets, the other has one larger closet. Both face east and get tons of morning light, as does the living room. The other bedroom is currently used for storage and for guests, but could become more office-like.
• Heat is included in rent.
• We have two portable air conditioner units, but didn't use them much past two summers; apartment has great cross-ventilation so we got by with fans and breeze.
• The $1800 does not include utilities (electric, gas, internet), but those will run ~$50 a month without air conditioning.
Me:
• 45F, Chemistry PhD, work at a biotech company in Kendall Square. I'm from LA, have lived in a bunch of cities before now. I like film, going to shows at Armory, doing art stuff at Figurative Arts Center, etc. in Cambridge/Somerville.
• I have a small dog (chihuahua mutt guy) who is quiet and has lived happily with a cat roommate before, so another cat or other small pet roommate, if you have one, could work out!
• I work 9-5 in Kendall Square and would not mind a roommate who works from home. I'm usually out a fair amount on evenings and weekends. We have a living room with a TV that I don't use much, outside of the occasional weekend morning; happy to have you people over, host dinners, etc.
Things that are less than 10-minute walk away: Harvard campus itself, Harvard Square T, Mass Ave shops, Cambridge Public Library, War Memorial Recreation Center.
Porter Square is a 15-minute walk away.
LGBTQIA+ friendly, as I am myself! Would love to find a friendly, equanimous roommate, more than a boarder type situation.
I'm a PhD chemist (she/her, 45) that works at a biotech company in Harvard Square (I take the T or bike to work).
I'm from LA and went to school in Ohio and Texas; since then I've lived in a bunch of places including the Bay Area, the Twin Cities, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, etc. over the years. I've had lots of roommates and always had good experiences. I'd love to have a roommate who also enjoys having roommates :)
Hobbies: Swimming; exploring Boston via urban hikes and day trips on commuter rail; quilting; printmaking. I like watching movies at the movie theater (there are 4 great ones walking distance from us and a few more an easy bike ride away); non-commercial radio; reading fiction, especially works in translation.
We have a living room with a TV that I don't use much outside of the occasional weekend morning so you'll have it mostly to yourself... we haven't entertained much this year but I'm definitely open to it.
A rental application and reference check.
I'm free to show the apartment weeknights after 6 or on the weekends.
Ready for move-in Aug 15 on a yearly lease.
Subject to landlord approval; must be under 40 pounds.
