We've had a last minute opening in our apartment and so you get a chance to join a super cool, queer group of roommates! We're looking for someone for August 1st, and we'll be interviewing asap over Zoom and in person. Please respond with your availability for the 30th and 31st for a tour/interview.
THE PLACE
Third floor walk-up to a two-floor 4-bedroom unit in a historic hundred-year-old building (no elevator), two bathrooms (one full, one half), dining room, living room, hard wood floors, tons of natural sunlight, a (sealed) fireplace, and gorgeous wooden pillars and molding from the original hundred-year-old construction.
The second floor has all of our bedrooms, the second bathroom with shower, the attic, and more closets.
The apartment is a block away from the 2/5 lines, and three blocks from 3 line. Per Google Maps, its about a 40 min. commute to midtown Manhattan. Laundry is one block away.
THE ROOM
$1095/mo. Roughly 96 square feet, enough space for a bed, desk, and dresser. Has one big window, lots of natural sunlight, and a good-sized closet. Nice yellow painted walls; landlords are open to you painting a different color if you prefer.
First month's rent, security deposit, reference, and proof of income/guarantor required upon move in. Per landlord, only one tenant/room and no pets.
HOUSEHOLD COVID PRECAUTIONS
Ideally we would like to find a roommate who is open to masking on transit, however we are open to those that don't. Two of us have long covid, and are trying to avoid getting it again. We also communicate when we are symptomatic or exposed to covid, and isolate/mask indoors accordingly and would ask you to do the same.
THE ROOMMATES
1) Hi, I’m Jay (he/him)! I’m a 32 y.o. white, queer, trans man. I’m currently working as a social worker/manager at a community health clinic. I’ve lived here in this apartment almost 9 years and really love the space and neighborhood. Some of my interests are swimming, tabletop strategy games, learning Spanish, traveling, and cooking/good food. I value a communicative, clean, considerate roommate, and I would ideally like someone I can be friendly and connect with.
2) My name is Peter (he/him)! I’m 32, and a white, disabled transman. I’ve lived here for three years. I’m into tabletop roleplaying games, larp, improv, theater, and I’m trying to teach myself guitar and graphic design. Ideal roommate is comfortable setting boundaries and taking/giving feedback. Our apartment dynamic has been really lovely and open, and I’d love to find someone who wants to be friends as well as roommates.
3) My name is D (she/they). I am in my mid 30s, and am a queer person of color. I am a freelance writer who’s done a lot of work for environmental nonprofits. I’ve been in this apartment for a little over two years. I love to dance, cook, read, study languages, and see/make performance art. Like my roommates, I value clear communication and a balance between having a clean home environment and a relaxed atmosphere based on trust, communication, and cooperation.
YOU
Respectful, trans/queer friendly, responsible, open communication, and doesn't smoke in the common spaces. Common interests with us are great, but not necessary. You don't need to be trans, queer, or covid cautious to apply, but it doesn't hurt. People of color are especially encouraged.
These are the things the landlord usually requires, but given that we only have a few days they might not ask for the letters:
Proof of Income (Paystubs, Letter from Employer)
Rental Receipts for the past 12 months (Venmo history works)
Copy of Driver's License or State Issued ID
Bank statements from past six months
They might also ask for:
Letter of recommendation from someone familiar with your renting history (previous roommate or similar)
Letter of character from a family member and a friend (two letters)
