This loft is a live work space for artists and creatives at The Brewery, the largest artists colony in the US. It’s available as a shared space with one roomate. This loft has 2 bedrooms, a large common kitchen and living area. The bedrooms are very separate and private.
The Brewery is an incredible community of artists, musicians, filmmakers, designers, architects, and other creatives. It’s on a 12-acre gated site with 320+ studios and over 500 people living and working here.
The loft has a cool steampunk vibe with a giant satellite dish light fixture and hand-made metal fixtures in the kitchen and studio. The furnished kitchen and living room are shared with each roommate.
The bedroom suite is upstairs with a queen-sized bed, or you can bring your own bed. We can also provide a number of desks - perfect for remote zoom meetings, video editing, or as a workspace. Your roommate is a chill, young artist who makes art in his own room and also works as an instructor outside of the loft.
The front studio is available for an additional $500 which is way under market. It’s a really beautiful space and quite large at 400 square feet with 22' ceilings. There is a giant window with curtains and two work tables. Otherwise, we may use it ourselves.
We are all vaccinated because we are grandparents:-). Please share your vaccination status when you inquire. The Brewery follows all COVID guidelines.
Hi-speed internet is free. The utilities are covered though there may be an additional charge for AC if the usage in your room is very high.
The loft is on the second floor and should be considered a walk-up. Our building is has a loading dock with a keyed freight elevator, that is only for frieght.
You have one parking space in our community parking lot. There is security at the gate in the evenings. The grounds include two small parks and we have a new common roof deck (picture is the old deck) with downtown sunset views. The laundry is across the hall.
Our on-site bar and restaurant, Barbara's, is open Tuesdays through Sundays. There is full bar and food until 11 most evenings. It's a great place to chill and meet other Brewery artists, USC medical staff, UPS drivers, and people from Stronghold Climbing Gym, which is on the premises.
This loft is part of the original Pabst Blue Ribbon Brewery and sits on Tongva land. There are some 16 buildings, including an 1893 Power plant, now Stronghold Climbing Gym, one of the best on the West Coast. There is a discounted membership for Brewery residents.
Twice a year, the Brewery Artwalk attracts over 10,000 visitors in the Fall and Spring to visit open artists' studios where you can show and sell your work or walk around and meet your neighbors. The next Artwalk is Oct. 25 and 26. You might be able to move in before that date.
The Brewery is located in Lincoln Heights, a historic neighborhood in a great location close to Downtown, the Arts District, Chinatown, Union Station, Olivera Street, Little Tokyo, the Broad, MOCA, and many other museums and points of interest. There are many restaurants in the area. We are a 10-15 drive to Echo Park, Silverlake, Griffith Park, Los Feliz, Highland Park, Old Town Pasadena, Trader Joe's, and farmers' markets.
Within a 10-minute walk are two parks. The Los Angeles Historical Park is where you can run, walk, stretch out, picnic, and see significant music events (Megan Thee Stallion played last year).
At its edge is Chinatown's Metro Gold Line stop, which can take you to the beach in about 45 minutes as well as to Highland Park and Pasadena. The 76 bus and Dash stop outside The Brewery and Union Station is about 1.5 miles away. The Flyaway bus to LAX is located on the back end of Union Station.
Also nearby is Lincoln Park, with a year-round public outdoor pool that is also great for walks and outdoor BBQs.
LAX is about a 25-minute drive, as is the beach if you travel off-peak, and the Burbank airport is about 15-20 minutes from the Brewery. We are just off the 5 Freeway and close to the 101, 110, 10, 710, and 134.
This is an unusual opportunity to live and work in a great loft, but also the chance to live and work in a true community, a multi-generational and diverse group of artists and creatives of all kinds in a supportive, welcoming, and collaborative environment that is truly unique.
My husband and I have exhibited work in the US and internationally at museums like MoMA and others. We have curated exhibitions and collaborated on large-scale public video installations. As a sculptor, painter, and mixed media artist, my husband has a full-time art practice.
I am a filmmaker and installation artist and until this year I had a small arts-based social justice and civic engagement non-profit for college students. Currently, I’m working in a personal installation project.
We love art, food, travel and our families and love to meet our roommates on the roof or at Barbara’s for coffee or sunset beer.
My husband and I are the leaseholders, live next door and currently use a portion of the space to store our work and use the studio unless rented as well. We are artists and filmmakers who have been here for almost 40 years. Our agreement with you is month to month, with a 60-day notice, though a long-term roommate is welcome. We are looking for a roommate who is chill, neat, and friendly, with proof of income and references. If you are interested, we can meet virtually and then schedule a visit if you are local. You will also meet privately - virtually or in person - with your new roommate to see if it’s a good fit.
To move in, we require a signed lease, the first and last month's rent, and a one-month security deposit.
