This rental is an architect-designed open-floor-plan live-work space (1200 sf) with lots of skylights – some ventilating -- and green views, 2 floors, off-street gated parking, and a 2nd floor balcony overlooking trees and gardens. It is fully furnished with all kitchen appliances in place, and hi-speed internet. All utilities are included in the rent.
There are partial views of San Francisco from the top floor, and of the Oakland Port from the balcony. There is one bathroom on the top floor, near the main sleeping area. There’s a dog-park ½ block away.
While this space is suitable for writing or small-format work, it is a clean space, with well-maintained floors and fixtures, not a full-scale studio.
For those with limited mobility, there is a stairlift to the main (2nd) floor. However, there are more stairs up to the main sleeping area. There is no washer/dryer in the unit, but there are laundry services nearby. There are cafes and a brewery at the Prescott Market within close walking distance, and an adjacent open-air street market on Sundays.
The unit is part of a 4-unit loft-condo complex with helpful, friendly co-owners. It's beautiful and very secure, on a quiet, green neighborly block in historic West Oakland. It’s a 3 minute walk to the West Oakland Bart Station and many municipal and inter-city bus-lines stop nearby. West Oakland is the best East Bay station for quick travel to San Francisco -- and to most Bay Area destinations.
We are looking for one or two quiet people who need housing for 2-3 months. If you have a car, we can arrange for off-street gated parking. If you don’t have a car, this is one of the best locations for using public transportation. There are frequent Bart trains to Berkeley, and San Francisco is literally a 9-minute Bart ride away.
Pets are negotiable. Cleaning service is negotiable. Dates are somewhat flexible.
We are two retired artists-educators. One Museum Curator and installation/paint/wood artist, and one film-maker/writer. Pronouns are she/they. We are the owners, but share some responsibilities with HOA partners. We will be traveling, but will provide local contact people.
A fully refundable $1500 cleaning and security deposit is required. Pets are negotiable. There is an additional $500 cleaning deposit for pets. Please be prepared to provide one or two personal/rental references. We'll arrange for a telephone, then a face-time interview with anyone interested. You'll also need to sign a simple lease agreement, which we'll provide.
