The Room
The available bedroom has high ceilings (~10 ft) with lots of natural light, ample custom shelving, a walk-in closet/storage area, and a view of the Williamsburg bridge. It can come with or without a queen-size bed, depending on your preference.

The Building
The building is an historic, charming pre-war building, six-stories tall, with *two* private outdoor spaces. It is centrally located, but sits on a peaceful, tree-lined residential street in the heart of the vibrant East Village.

The Apartment
Perched on the top floor of the building, the apartment is a duplex: Upstairs are the two bedrooms and the main bathroom connected by a hallway with skylight, while downstairs are the living + dining room, kitchen, & half-bathroom. Both floors have high ceilings and lots of natural light, with views of downtown Manhattan skyline. The layout features a spiral staircase that transitions nicely to privacy upstairs, adding character and charm while creating a sense of lofty openness. Our home is spacious, airy, and well maintained, with hardwood floors and iconic exposed brick walls.

Additionally, this apartment offers stunning shared outdoor spaces, including a garden courtyard and a rooftop terrace with panoramic city views – unusual in Manhattan. Both are serene retreats in the middle of the city. Because the building has only twelve units total, you’ll often be able to enjoy the roof or garden alone, or have friends over for alfresco gatherings (and grilling too!)

About This Lister

Much of the time you will have the entire apartment to yourself. My partner Martin and I use the other bedroom when we are in Manhattan a few days a week when he has to go to the office in Midtown. We just bought a house in the Hudson Valley which we are making our primary residence. I work (mostly) from home while here.

I do leadership development and executive coaching, and Martin is a fashion designer. When in town during the week, he works from his office, while I work partially from home and partially from cafes and libraries. We very much enjoy restaurants and also like cooking at home.

A clean and tidy living space makes us happy. Mutual consideration, kindness, and open communication are most important to us in a flatmate.

Cooking, movies, reading, traveling, jogging, hiking, and meeting new people are some of our favorite pastimes.

Martin was born and raised in Hong Kong, studied in California, and moved to NYC twenty years ago. I’m originally from Nebraska, also an EU citizen, and lived in Egypt and the Gulf for about five years. I bought this apartment in 2013, and renovated it to make it a lovely, homey retreat in the midst of this big city that I love.

Now with a new house in the Hudson Valley, my partner and I are at the start of a new chapter together, splitting time between our two homes.

We are looking for someone considerate, responsible, and respectful with good vibes – We value healthy living, creativity, kindness, and looking out for each other. We welcome flatmates from anywhere in the world, and are definitely looking for someone LGBTQ-friendly.

No tobacco or drug use in the apartment (though smoking on the roof is easy). No pets (plants welcome!). Please note: We are looking for one roommate only.
