Hi folks – portrait photographer Benedict Evans here, I have a lovely studio in Bushwick, Brooklyn, and for the past few years I've had a small number of people who use the space for up to 4 days a month each, for a set monthly fee. It's worked out really well and I'm looking to replace a member who's moving away. Spots don't come up very often; people generally stay for more than one year. The number of days is negotiable, but the rate stays at $163 per day, which is a pretty excellent deal, and most people go for the 4 days. I keep it limited to three members so there is always lots and lots of availability.
It's a warm, well-organized space. The shooting space is about 25x25 feet square, and includes, for your use:
- c-stands
- v-flats
- apple boxes
- sandbags
- seamless paper backgrounds
- wall-mounted surround sound system
- hair & makeup station
- clothing rack
- steamer
- fans
- stepladder
- water cooler/heater
- fridge
(My camera and lighting equipment is not included.)
It has massive, south-facing windows and beautiful natural light, but also blinds to block it out. The separate seating area has a couch and coffee table, plants, etc. It's on the second floor, and there is an elevator that operates 7 days a week, 8am-12pm and 1pm-4pm.
The ethos of the space is that it is run on trust and mutual respect. I have put a huge amount of time and effort into making the space both homely and streamlined, so I look for members who are conscientious, trustworthy, and respectful of the space. If that sounds like you, come and see it, and I'll talk you through the details and you can see if it's for you!
I am a portrait photographer from England, who has lived and worked in New York since 2009.
I will send you an email summarizing everything we agreed when you came to see the space, and ask that you reply with your agreement. I bill each member on the first of the month. I ask for 3 months' notice when someone leaves, to give me enough time to find a suitable replacement.
Usually members have been introduced to me through mutual friends or clients – always a plus if there's some kind of connection like that, to keep the space feeling personal.
