I’m 22 years old, quadriplegic, and use AAC to speak (a computer) and I’m looking for a caregiver.
I need someone who can help me with all daily living tasks. I also need someone who is also able to help support me in college classes.
You must be able to lift (I weigh around 90 pounds) and help with a lot of physical stuff. You don’t need experience, but you need to be open to learning and good with details. I’ll pay you through the Medicaid systems – so this is an “on the books” position.
I work well with people who have a strong sense of social justice, including disability justice, and who like to explore the world with me. I’m thinking about being a film or cinema major and I go to a school with a lot of artists. I love to watch sports, go to museums, listen to music, and spend time in the park.
I live on the Upper West Side with my parents and my small friendly dog who barks but is super sweet. During the school year (starts again at end of August) I go to school in Purchase NY a couple days a week (we drive).
I’m looking for people who want to work 12 to 16 hours a week. For the summer, the hours would be Wednesday and/or Friday evenings 5-9pm and Sundays 1-9pm. In the fall, it would be a longer day Thursdays (1-9pm) with 1-2 other evenings a week (could also include another weekday if you want more hours). You would need to be reliable and ideally could commit to a year. Rate dependent on experience, between $28-35/hr.
