San Antonio is the most popular area in San Miguel. Wander through San Antonio’s charming streets lined with small shops, diverse neighborhood restaurants, local food stands, gourmet bakeries, and friendly coffee shops. As you explore, you’ll find yourself surrounded by a thriving community of artists, with more than 40 of them participating in the annual San Miguel Open Studios “Art Walk” in March, where you can visit their studios and homes, soaking up the rich artistic scene. https://discoversma.com/news/community-news/san-miguel-de-allende-named-best-city-in-the-world-again-for-fourth-consecutive-year/
I’m a retired art teacher and designer.
My career began, after art school, in the garment business
Designing junior sportswear. Travel and long hours in a stressful industry, was enough after about a decade. I then began teaching in San Francisco at an art college.
In the late 1980’s after several trips to México, I took a big leap and in 1994, I left San Francisco and moved to Patzcuaro, Michoacán, México. With a dream and many ideas , Copper Dog Designs was born. My Golden Retriever and I were in business.
The era of big southwestern style furniture was popular , I had contacted several furniture shops in San Antonio and Austin, Texas to sell my furniture and copper home accessories. Soon expanding to Santa Fe and Telluride, we were on the road.
My export business began. Copper and wood were my trademark pieces.
By the end of the 90’s the internet was interfering with my style of sales.
I moved to Sayulita, then a sleepy beach town. I was able to market products there as the town was growing fast and many new homes were being built. By about 2010 Sayulita was very crowded and it was time to make a move. San Miguel is a great place to retire. Art and music and great food are some of the attractions, most of all, the warm and friendly Mexican people make this a very lovely place to live
