We love our spacious and sunny apartment in the leafy southwest district of Wilmersdorf, which is why we want it to stay inhabited while we will be away:
- our large and sunny living room (including a Yamaha piano, somewhat in need of tuning) with a balcony,
- our spacious dining room with a large dinner table sitting up to 10, and a cozy smaller family table sitting 4-5, our well-equipped kitchen,
- one bedroom with a single bed (90x200 cm),
- two bedrooms with double beds (140x200 cm),
- and a large parents' bedroom with a 160x220 cm bed.
We live on the 1st floor of a registered historic turn-of-the-century building in one of the most lovely streets of Berlin, with an amazing staircase and a charming wood-paneled elevator (which works most of the time). All rooms have large windows, 12-foot ceilings, mostly with original stucco decoration, and original wood flooring.
All rooms are furnished. You will find plenty of books - feel free to read them but please handle them with care and put them back where you took them after reading.
All bedrooms but the parents' are equipped with desks and chairs and can be used also as an office space. The parent's bedroom has a walk-in wardrobe and another balcony. There is also a water-rower in the parents' room which you can use to work out.
The kitchen is equipped with a stove, an oven, a fridge/freezer, a microwave oven, and a dish washer. There is a washing machine and a drying machine. There are two bathrooms, one with a large tub, one with a shower, and an extra toilet. There is WiFi throughout the apartment. We don't own a TV, though.
We will keep one room next to the entrance to store our personal belongings in. Please respect our privacy and do not enter this room during your stay. We provide ample space in the wardrobes, but some of the shelves, drawers and wardrobes contain personal items and are locked, too.
The neigbourhood is central but quiet, right in the middle between the city center and the Grunewald lakes (I like the first, my wife the latter), with plenty of restaurants and cafés, an organic supermarket, a twice-per-week farmers' market, several metro stations (U3, U9, Ring-S-Bahn) and bus stops (101, 248, 186) within easy walking distance. It's only 4 direct U3 stations to FU Berlin, but Humboldt, WZB, TU and most other academic institutions in Berlin are not too far away either. Right down the street is Rüdesheimer Platz, a scenic square with a popular "beergarden" (actually wine garden) where Rhineland wines are being served during the summer, the so-called Rheinbrunnen.
This is our home, so if you are looking for a place to stay with no personal touches, it probably wouldn't suit. Our home is well maintained but it's an "Altbau" and thus has signs of wear and tear. Right now, until April 2026, the flat two floors above ours is being renovated, so there might be some noise at times.
During my wife's sabbatical, I will be staying in Berlin at my sister's place. I plan to drop by from time to time to gather the mail or get the odd book or whatever from the apartment, and have a friendly chat if you wish, always giving prior notice, of course.
There is a cleaning lady coming once per week. She has a key.
I (he/him) am a writer and a journalist, my wife is a medical doctor. Our two children are grown up and have moved out. We own the apartment and have been living in it for more than 15 years (and plan to continue doing so after our return). I am in town and will show you around and be available if need be.
The rent is € 2500, all included. We also charge an additional € 2500 safety deposit to cover damage repair costs. Please provide a passport as proof of identity.
