Looking for someone to take over a room in this 2-bedroom apartment. My roommate took a job in Chicago and moved out Jan 27. No application fee, my name is the only one on the lease. Also my Chicago roommate and I will settle the security deposit when the lease ends, so no security deposit unless we renew together in September.
I’m hoping to fill the room for a move-in date, March 1 (or before, but not in a rush, looking for a good fit), the room is available now.
The lease goes till Aug 31. So ideally looking for someone to live here till then, with a possibility to renew. It’s a charming pre-war building in a perfect location near Tompkins Sq Park. Only 1 flight up on the 2nd floor of a 6-story walk up.
8-min walk to the L.
15-min walk to the F.
12-min walk to the 4/5/6.
15-min walk to the N/Q/R/W.
Grocery stores: Trader Joe’s, Union Market, Whole Foods, Key Food.
Great coffee shops, dozens of community gardens, Sundays Greenmarket, great gyms/fitness options, NYPL, all super close. I truly love this location + neighborhood.
Laundromat around the corner takes quarters, it’s $4.25 wash + ~$1 to dry. There’s a couple laundromats, so take your pick. I just go to the closest one, I’ve had laundry in-building before and this is really not far.
Super is nearby, and responsive. No dishwasher, but that’s never been a problem with just 2 people. People in the building are friendly, a mix of living here 30 years to 2 years. Not rent stabilized, but they don’t increase it much, $50-75 each year.
The bedroom is big enough for a queen size bed (in photos is a full-size bed), with a south facing window it gets amazing daylight. Radiator heat. Closet. Bathroom has a small tub. The apartment is mostly furnished, but we can talk about any furniture you might have. Current roommate is willing to sell the bed frame + mattress (Full, 3 years old. $300 total) if you want it. There's also 2 shelves in the room that fit nicely, you can have em, or remove them.
The apartment has a great layout, with a slightly separated kitchen from living room. It’s Manhattan, but we’re not on top of each other and can easily both be in the shared living space.
Bills: Monthly Electric & WiFi. We each pay ConEd ~$35 winter ~$60 summer (A/C). Spectrum $37.50 each.
The Building has recycling and compost. No smoking or vaping inside the unit. No elevator. Basic intercom to open the door for friends and deliveries. Cameras in hallway, no secure package room, but packages are fairly safe.
Building is Small-Pet friendly, but small dogs need to be a certified support animal (paperwork for the landlord, you can get a therapist to provide paperwork for emotional support animal).
Excited to chat and see if we are a good fit!
About me: I’m 33, woman (she/her), a UX designer. I’ve been in the East Village, in this apartment, for 3.5 years and had 2 different roommates over that time. I work a 9-5, it’s probably about 50/50 if I’m WFH or in-office. Most people say I’m easy to live with, caring, friendly, kind; I usually end up friends with my roommates, like 95% of the time. I can provide references or we can just chat about being roomies. I’m clean, but also live a busy life, I have cleaning routines, but I'm not perfect. I also travel; about every 8-weeks I’m gone for like a week at a time, so you’ll have some solo time in the space.
Other things… I go to a lot of design / artsy events and things. Love a good red wine. Make pour-over coffee every morning. And love a park hang.
About you: You are maybe around 30? Good credit score. You have a solid source for money + a plan for how you pay rent thru the end of the lease. Know how to live with roommates.
Other things to consider...
- It’s been best when I live with people around my age, or you have the emotional maturity of someone at least 29.
- You have had a roommate in the last 2-3 years, all my worst roommates lived alone before and don’t know how to share space. If you only know how to live alone, you will struggle in a Manhattan (smaller) space.
- All my friends are gay
Need to know: how you plan to pay rent each month thru the end of the lease. I have been a freelancer and lived with actors/artists, if you have variable income we’ll need to discuss it.
No security deposit at move-in, the room is clean but with some nails in the wall and some dust. You can paint, but with no deposit required the room is kind of as-is (still nice, just dust).
Rental agreement will be written with me as my name is the only one on the lease. Landlord will be notified of your name as the new tenant, but doesn’t approve anything (no application).
