Hi All! A friend of mine is giving up his apartment after eight years to move upstate, and I'm taking over his lease, on the corner of Bedford and Bergen. It's a gorgeous place - a pre-war brownstone duplex on the street and first floor levels, with a backyard that already has a firepit, grill, and active garden with compost.
The available bedroom is downstairs, next to the kitchen and backyard - and has it's own bathroom, a walk-in closet AND a giant extra room for storage. I'm open to subletting this room for short term (furnished or unfurnished) as well as longer term, whatever works for you! 3 month minimum - although I may be willing to do shorter term this summer while I look for a longer term applicant.
Other unique elements of the apartment include: more storage for gardening and outdoor equipment in the form of a "mud room" to the outside, a large kitchen, a GIANT livingroom upstairs, multiple fireplaces, gorgeous detailing on the walls and ceilings, stunning hardwood floors, a built-in vanity counter in the available room... there's so much natural light everywhere, and I intend to fill the entire space with plants.
I should also mention that I'm planning to get a cat after the move in, so if you are allergic this may not be the place for you. However, the apartment is friendly to well-behaved creatures so if you already have a cat or dog ( and they get along with other animals), please bring them!
My friend who is moving out has been hosting backyard barbecues for years and has a great relationship with both his landlords and his neighbors, so - everyone in the neighborhood is very friendly. This place is a gem - it's a 10 minute walk from four different subway lines ( A/C, 2/3, 4/5, and the S!) and is blocks from all the wonderful restaurants and shops on Franklin Ave - a very walkable neighborhood. I particularly love the coffee shops - there's Black Milk, Word of Mouth, and Little Zelda to name a few favs.
About YOU:
I'm ideally looking for someone who wants to be both roommates and friends (or at least friendly!) - some of my best friends in the world are people I've lived with, so I'd like to continue that trend. Female identifying, and over 30 would be ideal. LGBTQ+ friendly. Looking for a fellow plant-and-animal lover, outdoor enthusiast, who might enjoy the occasional dinner party with friends, or gardening day.
The move in date is flexible - I am moving in on May 27th, so you're welcome to also move a few days in advance if that is helpful. Since I'm not currently IN the apartment - I'm going to schedule very specific viewing times. For that reason, I ask that only very serious applicants apply!
Thanks - looking forward to hearing from you!
Best,
Thea

I'm an adjunct professor of film and acting at several higher ed institutions in the city, as well as a working actor and filmmaker (at times). I have a BFA in theater and an MFA in film, but teaching has become my primary love in the last few years; I am very passionate about it.
My hobbies are mostly to do with being active outdoors - I love to hike, swim, do winter sports, and travel. I enjoy experimenting in the kitchen (my boyfriend is a big cook, so we do that a lot together). I'm doing my best to read and write more, and be on screens less...
I'm sober but I don't mind if you drink - as long as you have a healthy relationship with it. No 420 or cigs in (or anywhere near) the house please. In terms of apartment cleanliness, I would say I'm not a neat freak but I do like things to be reasonably clean and organized.
