Hello! The Self-Portrait Project is, among other things, a photo-based, participatory art concept which I have been running in New York since 2009. Recently, we activated a Pop-Up Portrait Studio on the Lower East Side; it blew up on Tik Tok, and for the three weeks we had the space, there was a line down the block to participate.

Based on the success of said pop-up, we're now looking for a more permanent space which would support our intentions; namely, to open up for portraits for the community, have a space/lab in which to fabricate + create + experiment, and have a meeting / storage location for our team and gear.

We're open to short term, but ultimately would want it long term if successful. Ideally looking for something in Lower Manhattan, preferably the LES below Delancey, but open to anything anywhere, really.

Ideally the space would be ground-level with a door which opens onto a street with decent foot traffic, but again, we are open to all scenarios.

Budget is somewhere between $3500 & $9500 depending on what's being offered.

Many thanks!

About This Lister

Created as a participatory art concept in Williamsburg, Brooklyn by National Geographic Traveler prize-winning photographer Andy Lin, the Self-Portrait Project (SPP) is a system and method for self-representation using a camera, two-way mirror, and remote control. Since 2009, SPP has been reconceptualizing the photo booth using a principle of agency over one’s image as its core tenet. In the process, SPP has enabled tens of thousands of participants across fifteen countries to document themselves in over 1,500,000 images.
