Hello everyone! We at Dean Street House are looking for a new housemate (one person, or a couple) to join our four-story communal home in Crown Heights, with a large room opening Feb 1st, 2026.
The available room is massive - practically the size of a studio apartment. It comes with the following amenities: its own sink, bay window, additional window, a walk-in closet, (plus a second walk-in closet type area with built-in storage), high ceilings, parquet floors, vintage crown moulding, elegant wood accents - the list goes on! Currently, a couple shares the room and there’s more than enough space for two according to them. Rent for the room is $1,586.72 for one person or $2,088.20 for two people. Utilities and food are split evenly among all housemates and generally run less than $400/month per person.
Dean Street is a communal space in which we share food, cooking, and shopping responsibilities, pet our resident cat Elvy, and occasionally host community events. Our shared spaces include a kitchen with dishwasher and gas range, three living rooms, a front porch, and a backyard garden. There are also three bathrooms (with bathtubs), a washer/dryer in the basement, spaces for storage, a deck on the second floor, and a piano for all to play.
We’re looking for someone who is friendly, creative, and excited about living in a house like ours. While we recognize that everybody needs privacy some of the time, we’re also looking for a roommate who wants to build community with us and is interested in shaping and contributing to our home. If you want a place to just come home and sleep in, this might not be for you. But if this sounds up your alley, write and tell us a bit about yourself using the interest form below.
We hope to hear from you soon!
There are currently five of us living at Dean Street. Our ages range from early-mid 30s, and we work in the arts, social services, nonprofits, and hospitality. We enjoy home-cooked meals, good conversation, making music, biking, and the outdoors. We are politically engaged in a variety of ways, and we think it’s important to contribute to the life of our neighborhood and city. Sometimes we host reading nights, performance salons, film screenings, and other events here. We are committed to sharing in housework, communicating openly and compassionately with each other, and enjoy living with each other.
Sublet agreement with leaseholder. Will be put on lease when we sign a new lease in September. Security deposit equal to one month's rent.
