Seeking a roommate in their late 20s/early 30s to join an intentionally social, queer household of 5 late 20's women (open to a 6th housemate of any gender) in a beautiful three story + semi-finished basement ~3000 square foot brownstone.
The room: Large (a little over 175 sqft) south facing with 7+ foot tall bay windows overlooking the back yard. On the 2nd/parlor floor. Very high ceilings. Good sized closet. Shares a bathroom with Simone and Ella (Bio's below). Ella primarily uses the downstairs half bath in her day to day routine but showers upstairs. Really beautiful morning light. Right next to the bathroom. The room will be unfurnished.
The House: 6 bedrooms + 1 office, 3.5 bathrooms, 2 full kitchens, large primary living room, 2nd living room + communal office space, in-unit laundry, lots of abundant natural light, and a beautifully landscaped backyard. We (5 friends) are looking to sublet 1 room for a total of 6 people living in the house (Gio rents the office in addition to her bedroom). There's abundant storage space in the common areas and basement. There’s also a shared office space on the 3rd floor available for co-working-from-home.
Due to serious allergies, we're not able to consider anyone with a cat or dog. We will also need to have a peanut/pistachio/cashew-free household.
Lease renews at the beginning of September. This is a 4 month sublet starting May 1. Our ideal housemate would want to stay on if it's a fit all around.

The house is a community space with lots of socializing between housemates, spending time in common areas, eating together, and hosting dinner parties, game nights, movie nights etc. together and separately.
It's very important to all of us that we find roommates who are looking to be a part of our community, not simply for a place to sleep. There's plenty of space to spread out and no one's expecting anyone to be an extrovert all the time, but if you find that you don't like to socialize at home or your ideal roommate is someone with an opposite schedule who you never bump into, we probably won't be a good fit.
We’d love to hear a bit about you, why you’re moving, any experience you have living with numerous roommates/in community minded settings, what you want from your future home, etc!
The roommates:
Giovanna: 29yo queer woman from NYC (Astoria) working fully remote in advertising (basically the less sexy version of Mad Men).
Loves going to the movies (and watching movies at home), hiking and camping, scrolling pinterest, reading, and learning new crafts (crochet, jewelry-making, pottery etc). Big fan of being outside, swimming, autumn, collecting sea glass and shells, solo travel. Brazilian gal in search of the best coixinhas and açai bowls in town. Will find the closest good cup of coffee wherever she is.
Pros of living with Giovanna: Will drive a uhaul/zipcar (or Rachels van) to pick up your latest marketplace purchase or IKEA order, and will help you assemble said furniture. Will kill most bugs.
Cons of living with Giovanna: Hates taking out the trash (but will do it!). Might forget to water plants for a couple weeks (but manages to keep most plants alive nonetheless).

Rachel: 27yo queer woman originally from the PNW. Just finished grad school studying secular community formation and social infrastructure. Works full time in NYU's admission office on access programs for low income students transferring from community colleges. In the office 1-2 days a week depending on the time of year but otherwise works from home.
Loves to sew and knit and otherwise engage creatively with most textural mediums. Reads a lot of fluffy romance novels and swims at every chance she gets, especially in natural bodies of water.
Pros of living with Rachel: Semi-regular baking, very handy with household projects regular procrastination/stress cleaning, real eye for design of spaces. Sews well and is always down to help repair a garment/hem pants/whatever. Loves to host. Pretty good at doing nails (including gelx and other fanciness) and always looking for guinea pigs.
Cons of living with Rachel: She spends too much time on facebook marketplace/buy nothing and will pitch swapping out a perfectly good piece of furniture for something a little nicer at least once a month. Is constantly suppressing an itch to rearrange any given room.
—
Simone: 28 yo queer woman from NYC (Morningside heights) (Giovanna and I went to bxsci together!!) working in local government for a socialist city council member. Work is hybrid.
Passionate about local politics, NYC, micromobility and public transit, Citi biking around Brooklyn, having friends over. I’m Jewish and love celebrating Jewish holidays (and having people over to do so) and would love to bring another Jew into the house to do these things with!
Pros/cons of living with Simone: Loves to/compulsively is unable to not discuss above passions, in general talks a lot but usually in an entertaining way. It has been said that she is a good shoulder to cry on, great advice giver, and hilarious. Loves to have friends over and loves going out dancing.
—
Ella: 29yo queer woman from NYC (Brooklyn) working hybrid in museum education (usually in office 3 days/week) and finishing up a masters in Library Science.
Loves going to shows (theater/music), movies, and museums, and looking at realllllly old books. Big fan of writing, reading, cooking, crocheting/embroidery, powerlifting, board games, playing guitar/bass, and teaching myself songs on piano.
Pros/Cons of living with Ella: Not the most handy person, but I’m a great cheerleader during all home improvement projects. I don’t really know how to use a drill, but I can lift heavy furniture. Always down for a chat in the kitchen/living room, board game, or movie night. Maybe sometimes too much of a chatty Cathy and procrastination-enabler.

Stephanie: 29yo Italian yapper (she/her) who has lived in the bedstuy/crown heights area for 4 years. I studied psychology and worked in academic research for a bit before transitioning to consumer insights in the TV/entertainment space. Currently required to be in office 4/5 days a week! Can discuss reality TV ad nauseam (it is anthropological). I love bitchy dogs and shopping for nothing with an iced beverage and good company. Constantly trying to learn how to knit and taking italian lessons weekly! I also host a monthly movie club that everyone is welcome to join (a ploy to make my friends watch the same movies as me so we can talk about them). I love a wholesome night with friends but am also willing to rave all night (I have ~range~).
Pros of living with Stephanie: will accompany you on any meaningless errand or task for moral support. Will watch a movie with you
Cons of living with Stephanie: Certified yapper, responds hours late to texts, adhd & a big procrastinator
This would be a sublet with option to renew if all goes well (Rachel, Gio and Simone are on the lease). We'd need proof of income along with first and deposit.
