I am a 35mm and digital documentary-style photographer, though I do prefer film for the nostalgia. I like to say that my style is more candid than anything. When I am behind the lens, my goal is ultimately to help you get your guard down and inspire you to be your best, most comfortable self. While photographing events, you can find me floating around, doing what I call "drive bys" - not shooting from inside a car, but rather, snapping a quick photo of a moment happening in real time. I want you to remember your day as it happened, without all the stiff posing! Of course, I am not opposed to posed shots, but in my opinion, especially for weddings and other life events, candid shots are the best mementos.
I offer sliding scale rates, depending on what you are hiring me for. Most rates start at $120 for digital portraiture and events/nightlife, but for weddings, my rates are $700+. For any shoot, I offer either 35mm, digital, or both (which does raise the price of my service). Typically, clients like a blend of both, so I often offer 1-2 rolls of film (around 70 shots), plus over 300 edited digital and the entire raw library of images of their event. For an event shot entirely on film, this would cost $250+ and would come with 4+ rolls of film (around 140 shots or more).
My name is Ric Morchower and I am a proud lesbian photographer from Roswell, Georgia. I have been living in Harlem since 2021, after graduating from Shenandoah Conservatory with a BFA in Musical Theatre in 2020. Since moving to the city, I have surrounded myself with members of the LGBTQ+ community and couldn't be happier. These are the people that inspire me to keep doing what I love! I have been involved in so much beautiful queer joy since beginning work as a freelancer, such as working as a photographer's assistant for several LGBTQ+ weddings and photographing many parties, such as Dykes and Dolls and Girl Party.
After taking up film photography as a hobby in 2021 and falling in love with the medium, I made the decision to begin freelancing in the field in 2023. I have mostly been a self-taught documentary photographer, though I have learned a great deal from other photographer friends and by doing research on styles of photography/famous photographers that I admire or would like to emulate.
I am the resident photographer for Girl Party, a transfemme strip pop up that is held monthly. Prior to that, in 2023-2024, I was the resident photographer for The Great Film Club's NYC branch.
Can provide references for nightlife/event/wedding photography as needed.
