Literacy Teacher for a homeschooling teen with disabilities

Family seeking creative, energetic and agile Teacher dedicated to supporting learner centered education.
Position Function
Facilitate a literacy centered wholistic learning program that supports creativity, freedom and inclusion for a teen with disabilities.
Position Responsibilities
• Structure the day: open the day / set intentions, work through cycles of intention, creation, reflection and sharing, close the day / gratitude circle
• Design and offer literacy lessons
• Facilitate a variety of social and educational activities at home and in the community
• Assist teen in demonstrating learning
• Maintain a vibrant and harmonious atmosphere
Schedule / Location
4 days per week; 6-8 hours per day
2 days per week in East Hampton, NY and 2 days per week in New York City
Salary
$60 000 to $80 000 private pay, per year
1 year contract
Required
• Experience teaching literacy in a wide variety of approaches
• Experience working with individuals with multiple physical and developmental disabilities
• Understanding of learner centered education / self directed education
• Curious, warm, caring and compassionate personality
