A fully furnished cottage on a lush 1.5 acre piece of land just outside of Woodstock. Perfect for a couple, a creative retreat, or just to escape the bustle of the city for a spell. One bedroom, one bathroom, all the usual amenities (including AC). The property is right off of Cooper Lake and is incredibly quiet and peaceful.
Woodstock is the nearest town (Bearsville is more or less purely residential), and is definitely worth spending some time in. Restaurant highlights include Sylvia, Good Night, Cucina, and Bread Alone Bakery. There are plenty of little boutiques, music venues, and hikes in the area as well.
The house is about a ten minute drive from downtown Woodstock (it's worth noting that you'll lose cell service on this drive) and about one hour and 40 minutes from the city (zero-light traffic). If you aren't driving in, the nearest Amtrak/Metro North train station is Rhinebeck (about a 35-minute drive). A Trailways bus also runs from Port Authority in the city to the Bearsville post office just around the corner (a two-minute walk). Ubers and taxis are around, but ideally not to be fully relied upon. Feel free to message us with any questions about transportation—we are happy to help!
I'm a novelist and a playwright, and I live between Bearsville (same property, different structure) and the city. I love to host people up here, particularly other artists who are in need of a recharge, mini-residency, etc. My assistant manages the property, so she'll be the point-person for tenants—but you'll probably see me around, shooting hoops & walking my dog. Don't hesitate to say hello.
No references or background check necessary, but all serious inquiries will require a conversation over the phone to touch base and gauge compatibility. You'll need to sign a standard lease/subletting agreement in addition to providing some proof of income. One month's rent will also be asked for upfront as a security deposit and will be returned upon move-out as long as the space has been treated respectfully and according to the written agreement.
Allergic to cats, sadly—but accommodations can be made for dogs
