The apartment is the entire furnished first floor of our three-story brownstone. It's loft-like, as all no walls divide the space. There is a kitchen on one end, a living room area in the middle, and a bedroom area on the other end. The bathroom has a walk-in shower. Unfortunately, the apartment is not wheelchair accessible. We have lived in this house for nearly 30 years; our apartment has art and artifacts we've inherited from family and artist friends. The space is unique and it is really special to us.
The garden would be your space exclusively, as only the first floor has access to it. There is a BBQ and table space outside, and we are very open to you growing things in the garden if that's something you enjoy. For the warmer months, there is a window A/C unit. New windows were installed last year and they have screens for when you want to let in cool air minus bugs from outside.
The apartment has hardwood floors, high ceilings, and a large wardrobe system in addition to a dresser, so there is lots of room for clothing and storage. We provide new, unused linens and sheets. Our kitchen is lovely to cook in, with a huge sink, huge fridge, dishwasher, and a lot of counter space. The bathroom has a shower, but no bathtub. Friends from out of town who have stayed in our house often remark how incredibly quiet it is. In the spring, there are huge flowering trees in the neighboring back yards that fill your view.
The two upstairs floors are a duplex, rented to a lovely family of three. There is laundry in the basement (washer/drier, both with very quick cycles) that you share use of with our upstairs friends/tenants.
The house is two blocks from Smith Street, which is full of restaurants, cafes, and shops. Nearby Atlantic Avenue has great middle eastern food stores and a Trader Joe's. Public transportation options are plentiful.
We are a couple in our late 50s/early 60s, a professional artist/NYU professor and an editor/publisher. We've lived in our house in Boerum Hill since 1998. We both grew up in multi-lingual households, have traveled widely, have family all over the world and live outside the US for part of the year. We care a lot about our space want to rent to someone who is very trustworthy who is professional, very neat, has excellent references, and who will be as considerate of our lovely tenants and friends upstairs as they will be of you.
You must be very neat and clean. No Smoking. Unfortunately, we can't allow pets. Due to the nature of the layout, looking to rent this apartment to a single person or a couple. $1500 security deposit required and two references.
