Hi!
I'm looking for a living space in Brooklyn.

minimal info:
- room, studio, or 1bd offers are all welcome;
- ideal range 1000-1500$ (1800$ max);
- starting from the end of August or the beginning of September (I fly back to the US on August 29);
- preferred areas: BedStuy (best case scenario), Clinton Hill, Fort Greene, Crown Heighs, Prospect Heights, Red Hook, Park Slope, East Williamsburg, Greenpoint;
- I have minimal furniture in storage, but both furnished or unfurnished are ok;
- possibility to store my bike somewhere;
- no cats, allergic;
- preference for international, first/second gen. or travelled flatmates.

Please note, because of the chaotic (euphemism) nature of current US border policies, I am looking for a living arrangement that allows for a certain level of flexibility (i.e. allowing me to sublet or let someone take over my lease, just to be safe in the worst case scenario).

Kindest,
Leop

about me as a tenant:

I'm currently also working part time as a teaching assistant and museum docent for NYU.

My estimated annual income for 2025 is 57k+ , credit score 700+.

My department, ISAW, can act as a guarantor.

Very respectful, single, no pets, non-smoking, will never host loud gatherings in the house.

**about me:

My name’s Leopoldo (Leop for short, he/they), I’m 29 years old, PhD student, queer, vegan, leftist.
I am used to international contexts, was raised as a child in Cyprus and Trentino (Italy) and have lived in shared apartments in different countries and cities (Venice, Jerusalem, Leiden, Den Haag) since I was 18. I moved to NY (and the US) in September 2022.

Currently I’m in the third year of a 6/7 year long PhD program in ancient Western Asia at ISAW - NYU.
I’m no longer taking classes, but I’m now focusing on my research and working as a teaching assistant and museum docent.
My research deals with monuments, social identity, and religious experience in the ancient eastern Mediterranean (mainly Turkey, Syria, Cyprus), but also really into things that matters to people living right now (heritage, museum collections, contemporary art, politics, cultural memory).
I do archaeological and museum fieldwork normally one-two months a year in central Turkey over the summer, and hopefully soon in Syria too.

Beyond the PhD I also help around with a festival in Venice on mental health de-institutionalization and with the David Graeber Institute on art community projects.
Outside of work, my interests include (but are not limited to) contemporary art in all forms, poetry, music, second-hand books, cooking/baking/fermenting, swimming, running, city-wandering.

**about living with me:

Friendly introvert.
Nurturing individual, love intentional conversations, will always be there if you need help - if we live under the same roof I will care about you.
I would love if possible to occasionally host a couple friends over for coffee or dinner, which you would always be welcome to join. I really love to host and cook for others (I’m never actually able to make this happen in NYC, and a part of my soul has been slowly dying since I moved here)
If we end up being great friends that’s amazing, but at the very least I don’t want to be in a situation where being flatmates feels like a chore and an annoying compromise.

Very sustainability oriented, I don’t obsess over it but I do as much as is doable and don’t stress others about it too much.
I have a bike and would need a place where to store it.
I don’t obsess over things looking neat and organized, but I am very conscious of cleanliness and hygiene. Comfortable with messiness, not with dirt.
Ideally no shoes indoors, but at the very minimum I will sweep/vacuum floors once a week, or whenever they look like they would need.
Cleaning rotation is ideal, but I’m open to hiring someone.

When I am home I normally gravitate often around the kitchen. In a non-annoying and extremely quiet way, but I will be in the living space often.
Beyond being a serial snacker and tea/coffee drinker, I do fermentation projects, meal prep etc. Sometimes I bake stuff, and share ofc.
Vegan and gluten intolerant (not allergic or celiac thankfully so space contamination is not a major problem).
However, because I am a very sensitive smeller/taster (I was trained as a sommelier at some point in my life), I keep my kitchen equipment 'vegan' to avoid aftertastes - meaning I am happy to share my equipment at those circumstances (sorry, I know this sounds annoying but I promise it’s not).

**week schedule:

Needless to say, as a PhD student I am quite busy, working at times as an art docent at my department gallery (in the UES), in Washington Square (where I work as a teaching assistant) and at times from home. This depends on my class teaching schedule. Not to worry, I’ve become very good at keeping any stress for myself.

On average, expect me to be two days out of the house 8am to 5/7pm and the other days either half and half or 'at home' all day long. I’m not able to sit still for long, so in the days I wfh I’m more likely to move around, go work at a coffee shop, see some art with a friend and/or run errands. I used to go swimming and training for an hourish every day or two at the BedStuy YMCA and hope to keep that routine when I come back.

In the weekends, I usually go to the farmer’s market and then spend the rest of the day going for workshops or art shows with friends. Sometimes I go to the occasional concert or other event.

I can also be reached via facebook or on instagram, feel free to friend/follow/stalk me without any problem to double-check I’m not a spambot. I also have an academia.edu page.
