Fully furnished luxury renovation of an old garage and speakeasy on a quiet street in the Rondout. Very comfortably sleeps 4. Fully equipped kitchen, huge family table, fireplace, sofas, motorized movie screen, projector for home cinema. In-room mini-splits for heat and a/c. Uniquely decorated with books, vintage record player, receiver, Klipsch floor speakers. Glassed garage door onto the street, on-street parking. Fully equipped with sheets, towels, ready to be lived in.

The main space consists of a huge single room on two levels, with a roll-up frosted-glass garage door onto the street. The room includes a twelve foot table milled from a single old beam, fifteen chairs and a fully equipped kitchen, with stove, dishwasher, loads of appliances, a full array of cooking supplies and ingredients, home-canned sauces, soups, beans, dal. You can make ice-cream, bake galettes, practice canning; you can do anything you like really. The kitchen is perfect for entertaining. We've hosted dinners for 20 people here.

On the upper level there are two big sectional sofas. The one beside the garage door faces the gas fire for cozying up, the other faces the motorized screen which comes down at the press of a button which, with the addition of an HD projector, alchemizes into a screening room. We have MUBI and Criterion subscriptions, and you can sign into anything of your own. The projector (and your phone) connect wirelessly to a vintage McIntosh receiver and two classic Klipsch floor speakers, for great sound. We also have a record player and records, if you want to go that route. There is a library of books and records.

Tea and coffee and supplies and all the stuff you'd expect to find in a comfortable home, which the Garage is.

Each bedroom has its own full bathroom. One has a claw foot tub with a shower (for soaking), the other has a walk-in shower. Hot water high-efficiency hybrid heaters. The bedrooms and bathrooms are fully equipped with good bedding and towels.

Heating and a/c are from mini-splits, along with the gas fireplace. I pay the first $200 of utilities, you pay anything beyond that.

West Union is a quiet street in one of the sweetest districts of this thriving town. There are coffee shops, vintage stores, print shops, and restaurants just round the corner, and the river is a couple of hundred feet away.

Although the Garage is a private home, it retains the soul of the old speakeasy it once was. We are a hub of the community. Our friends and family live in apartments above us, alongside us, in the same building and the house next door. It's like a big old boat. We help run the shop in the front of the building, cook food for projects in the neighborhood and occasionally host the Rondout Neighborhood Hang. We know everybody, their kids, their pets. Our friends and neighbors work in local restaurants, have boats on the river, print spaces, cafes, shops and cinemas, so we can always point you at activities going on around town.
