Studio in a School seeks an experienced, enthusiastic, empathetic and collaborative arts educator/administrator to join our program team as the Manager, Residency Programs (Full-time temporary replacement with potential to become permanent). The Manager will coordinate, oversee, and support visual art instruction delivered by professional Artist Instructors in public schools and community-based organizations throughout New York City. The Manager will join a passionate, talented team in a dynamic and well-respected art education organization, while taking initiatives in implementing a diverse portfolio of residency programs.

The Temporary Manager is expected to work from late March to late June 2026, and will report to the Associate Director of Residency Programs. This position is temporary and full-time, and supervises a team of Artist Instructors, and possibly one Program Coordinator. Part-time inquiries are welcome.

About Studio in a School
Studio in a School fosters the creative and intellectual development of young people through quality visual arts programs, directed by professional Artist Instructors, arts and cultural internships, and apprentice-based learning in the arts. The organization also collaborates with and develops the ability of those who provide or support arts programming and creative development for young people both in and outside of schools.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
• Realize the mission of Studio in a School, which includes managing classroom-based art instruction, professional development of Artist Instructors and educators, and events or workshops for parents.
• Manage visual art residencies ranging from six to fourteen weeks in public schools and community-based organizations throughout the five boroughs during the school year.
• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and artist instructors to develop goals and strategies for each residency.
• Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with school leadership and school communities through ongoing communication and active listening. Meet with school leaders to align programs with the needs of their schools.
• Oversee program start-up and implementation, support Artist Instructors in all aspects of the residency planning including facilitating planning meetings and communication with schools in coordination with the Registrar.
• Provide support to Artist Instructors and sites. Troubleshoot teaching issues and solve problems that arise during residencies.
• Observe and evaluate programs and sites, providing support and feedback to Artist Instructors, and check-ins with teachers and site administrators, to ensure fidelity to program models.
• Design and implement events and workshops for parents and the school community.
• Collaborate with the Associate Director of Residency Programs to plan and implement the Final Meeting for the Residency Program.
• Collaborate with leadership to collect data and analyze program outcomes.
• Attend exhibition/networking/community events, as necessary.
• Spend between one to three days per week in the field at program sites.
• Other duties and ad-hoc projects as assigned.

Desired Skills and Background

Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field, Master’s degree in Visual Art, Arts Administration, or Art Education preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a related field.
• Prior experience working with young people, curriculum development, supervision, outcomes-based program design, management and reporting.
• Familiarity with the NYC public school system.
• Familiarity with teaching students with disabilities and/or English Language Learners is a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• High proficiency in using Microsoft Suites.

• Able to set clear expectations and be firm and diplomatic while balancing the interests of Artist Instructors, Studio in a School programs, and school partners.
• Able to complete NYC Department of Education Fingerprint and Background Check Clearance upon
employment.

Location
We are currently working on a hybrid schedule. The Temporary Manager will be asked to work at least 2 days per week in our office at 75 West End Avenue, New York, NY, or in the field, though this schedule may shift and evolve.

Salary
The annual salary for this temporary full-time position is $75,000-$79,000 and will be prorated based on the length of service needed. Part-time inquiries are welcome.
