Looking for a summer place in the upper Hudson Valley/lower Catskills for some R&R and to explore a potential permanent move.
Seeking something peaceful and somewhat secluded, though open to in-town spots in Newburgh, Beacon, New Paltz, Kingston, Woodstock, etc. Prefer a solo space rather than a room in a house—e.g., a cottage, granny shack, garage apartment, basement suite, yurt, whatever!—but flexible.
Ideally, I’d love a work-trade arrangement. I have experience in organic farming, landscaping and garden maintenance, forestry, handy[wo]man work, cleaning, carpentry, and mechanics, and genuinely enjoy general physical labor. I’d be happy to help with yard work, animal care (fur or farm babies), outbuilding restoration, domestic tasks/errands, or other needs. I’ll still be working my lawyer gig full-time (hybrid, with one to a couple day(s)/week in the city) but happy to build out something flexible averaging around 10-15 hrs/week.
Otherwise, my budget is ~ $1,500–$2,000/month. Move-in timing also flexible, roughly June through September.
I’m a 38-year-old nonprofit tenants’ rights attorney living and working in NYC but hoping to make a permanent move to the Catskills region in the near future.
I love the outdoors (hiking, camping, fly fishing, mushroom hunting, general rambling, etc.) and am craving access to wide open spaces, fresh air, and actual stars.
I'm social and chatty with a love of community, but also deeply need and value alone time and quiet. I plan to focus my time over the summer trying to build deeper relationship with the area, both the people and the land.
