Quiet, cozy log home in rural town near Oneonta/Cooperstown

Houses for Sublet

$900/month

Available

December 1, 2025 - March 31, 2026

Neighborhood

Town of, Morris

Size

1,260 sq. ft.

The house is a three-bedroom log home with one bathroom, full kitchen, small front and back porches, and an inviting propane fireplace in the living room. It sits on a quiet dead-end road plowed in winter by the county. It is a 5-minute drive to a lively coffee shop, old-school diner, decent pizza parlor, sweet library, and local crafting school. Ten minutes to an excellent Amish grocery, bakery, and small galleries, twenty-five to the college town of Oneonta, and about thirty minutes to historic Cooperstown. There are a number of state parks in the area as well.

There are a few steps leading to the house, so it is not wheelchair accessible at this time. It is furnished, but has room for your stuff. The house was built from a kit in the 70s and retains a retro 70s look and feel (for now...). There are only two other houses on the road, both out of eyesight. There is someone in the area who can come by to deal with plowing the driveway and any house-related issues or emergencies, but generally this is a very quiet and peaceful spot.

There is electric heat in the bedrooms and the propane stove in the living room for heat. We'd ask the subletter to cover a portion of the heat bill in addition to the rent. At the moment, there is no WiFi at the home, as we prefer to be away from our devices when we are there. (There is WiFi at the nearby cafe and library.) But we are happy to connect WiFi for a subletter who needs it.

This sublet would be perfect for one or two people looking for a quiet winter getaway maybe while working on a personal, artistic or academic project or who need a short-term place to stay that's near Oneonta or Cooperstown. We will need the house back no later than April 1st, so the sublet must end by March 31.

About This Lister

We love this house! We want to rent it to someone who will love it also. When we are there, we really enjoy being in the woods, exploring state parks nearby, meeting our neighbors at the local coffee shop, and visiting the many local libraries in the area. If you want to see the place, we can arrange to meet you there.

Rental requirements

We would need a formal lease agreement and deposit of $450 to be returned at the end of the sublet. We would also need the subletter to cover half the heating bill. Move-in can happen flexibly around December 1st, but the move out must take place prior to April 1st. We'd ask for two references unless you are referred through our network.

Pets Policy

We'd need to talk about what kind of pet. If it's workable for us, we'd ask for a pet-specific deposit to cover any damages.
