Seeking a clean, quiet, mellow roommate who can join us, ideally long-term, in this huge sun-soaked two-bedroom unit in a prewar building at the heart of Ridgewood near a lovely public park and within walking distance from the M and L trains. The apartment has two bedrooms and also includes a large kitchen, a dining room, a living room, a mini mudroom nook for shoes, and one full bathroom. It’s fully furnished and outfitted with parquet floors, stained glass windows, restored 1920s light fixtures, Florentine glass, original crystal and cast iron doorknobs, and quiet radiators in every room. It has all-new kitchen appliances including a convection oven, a large double-door fridge, a freezer with separate compartments for each roommate, sparkling black quartz countertops, and a detachable sink spray nozzle, plus a lot of cabinet and counter space.

About This Lister

We’re a queer couple that is quiet, clean, friendly, and low-key. We generally keep to ourselves around the apartment and we communicate directly and respectfully about house things. We occasionally have visitors over and we like to cook together but are always considerate. We love furnishing and decorating the house—it’s important to us. We are also both reasonably covid-conscious. Amelia is a 30 year old editor and writer who has lived in this apartment for the last four years. They have experience living in a cooperative, so they have a pretty intentional and earnest approach to rooming. They work in person part time and from home part time. Carly is a 26 year old artist who has lived in Ridgewood for 2 years. She works part time at a local gift shop and part time from home. She is clean, quiet, and likes to cook.

We’re looking for a subletter who is likewise clean, quiet, and kind. You’re someone who can communicate openly and directly about house things with respect and thoughtfulness. You don’t mind working out fair, flexible cleaning/maintenance agreements and following through on them. You don’t mind us making all the furnishing/decorating decisions in the shared parts of the house. You don’t use any intense chemical fragrances like synthetic scented candles, air fresheners, strong perfume/cologne, hairspray, etc (mentioning this because one of us has a migraine-related sensitivity to chemical fragrances). You’re reasonably covid-conscious too.

Some more specific housekeeping details:
We buy all the house incidentals in bulk (soap, toilet paper, paper towels, etc) and split the total costs monthly which average about $100 (~$33 per month per person).
The utilities we are responsible for are wifi and ConEd, which usually total about $60 and $100 per month, respectively (~$20 and $33 per person), with electricity bills generally being higher in the summer.
It’s a shoes-off house—there’s a nook for shoes in the hallway.
We all take turns cleaning the kitchen and bathroom and vacuuming and mopping the house on a regular basis. (Also since it’s a prewar house the drain in the tub is a bit finicky so the hair catcher needs to be cleared out every time it’s used.)
For migraine reasons we prefer not to use heavy cleaning chemicals so we mostly use vinegar, baking soda, and mild unscented soaps instead.
There are no dumpsters for the building, so we take out the trash twice a week and recycling once a week and switch off responsibility for that every week.
There’s no vent hood in the kitchen so we have to open the window while using the oven/stovetop.
The landlord is a retired professional maintenance guy so he’s quick and efficient with maintenance needs if they ever come up.
