This open-plan 1600-sq-foot, furnished apartment with hardwood floors has two bedrooms, one small office, storage, 1.5 baths, dishwasher, w/d, and spacious 10-foot ceilings—offering comfort and space.

The MBR has a king-size bed, and the 2nd BR has a queen-size bed. Both bedrooms have air conditioners and a third air conditioner is in the open area. The kitchen is fully stocked and there are two separate seating areas, one with a tv (with Roku) on a moveable arm. There is plenty of room to pick your workspace or relax. This is a friendly, quiet building of six floors with 14 units.

There are four steps leading to the building’s entrance. The building has an elevator. The roof, with a small container garden, is accessible by a stairwell; it has seating and a charcoal grill.

The apartment, on the NW corner of Hudson and Laight, is three blocks from the Hudson River and its incredible parks (which have substantial summer programs), close to many wonderful restaurants and outdoor cafes, a few minutes to the 1 or A/C/E trains, and half-a-mile walk to all other major subways. Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s are within a ten-minute walk, as is ChinaTown. The neighborhood is very friendly for walking and biking.

Included in the rent are every-other-week cleaning and laundry. Utilities (electric and wifi) are not included.

We are looking to rent to someone quiet and community-minded. The building has mostly families with young children and other residents are over 40.

About This Lister

This apartment has been our home since the 1990s — and it shows in the care we've put into it. This is our home — not a rental unit — and we treat it that way.

We are both academics/writers whose work focuses on the arts and social justice, and we'll be spending the summer in the Hudson Valley. Our two daughters (20 and 24) have grown up here, and we're proud to share this space with the right tenant.

We welcome prospective renters to visit in person or arrange a video walkthrough. And once you've moved in, we'll remain readily available to help with anything that comes up.

Rental requirements

One month's security deposit and a half month's rent are required at the time the lease is signed.

The other half of the first month's rent is due ten days before the move-in date, and additional rent is due five days before the end of each month.

Utilities will be reconciled within two weeks of the end of the lease and the rest of the security deposit returned. There will be a formal lease.

Renter must show evidence of renter's insurance 15 days before the move-in date (in 2025 this cost $60 total for $10,000 for personal property and $100,000 liability with a $250 deductible). Screening includes providing a driver’s license, work references, and landlord references.
