Subletting a bedroom in my West Harlem home for 3 months, June-August. It’s a comfortable, sunlit apartment that comes complete with vintage furniture and a garden of houseplants. The amount of space in the bedroom, living room, and kitchen is downright luxurious. You’ll share the space with one roommate. It’s the perfect environment for a working professional or visiting scholar at Columbia to unwind, cook some meals, or get some work done after a day out in the city.
2 bed/1 bath, 3 story walk-up.
The Location
It’s a ten minute walk to Columbia University, right next to the 1/2/3 and A/B/C/D trains, and there are several major bus lines on the doorstep, including the M60, which takes you to LaGuardia Airport in 40 minutes door-to-door.
Everything you need is within walking distance. Morningside, Riverside, and Central Park are all minutes away, as well as your grocery store of choice, whether that’s Foodtown, Trader Joe’s, or Whole Foods. Take a stroll to my favorite cafe in the world, the Hungarian Pastry Shop, or check out a book at the New York Public Library branch that’s just across the street. The apartment is surrounded by great restaurants with a global range of cuisines. There are two climbing gyms and a public swimming pool. I could go on!
The Bedroom
The bedroom comes with a brand new Midea U-shaped window unit that’s optimized for quiet, efficient cooling. It looks out onto a silent side street that’s closed off to pedestrians and traffic. You’ll have ample room in the closet and dresser for your clothes, a beautiful wooden desk, warm area lighting, and a reading chair. There are heavy blackout curtains for a comfortable night’s sleep.
Amenities
WiFi and utilities are included. There’s a full bathroom, with shower and bathtub, and the toilet has a bidet.
Ground Rules
No parties, no pets, no smoking.
This goes without saying, but I love my home, have lived here for years, and will stay here for years to come. Please respect it as if it’s your own.
I'm a writer and university professor. I'm gone for the summer to work at another college. My roommate is an exceptionally kind urban planner (female) who will be around for at least part of your stay. There might be another subletter in the other bedroom during July and/or August.
Please tell me a little about yourself and your plans this summer in the city when you reach out! As this is my long-term home, I'd like to have a Zoom interview with potential renters ASAP and I'll ask you to a sign a contract to seal the deal. One month's security deposit will be required to reserve the sublet. The full 3 months' rent will be due on June 1.
