My name is Justin and I'm looking for a clean and considerate roommate/sublet for my spacious and sunny East Bay apartment -- which is centrally located in the Grand Lake area, a five minute walk from the historic cinema as well as Lake Merritt.

The room comes with a bookshelf and comfortable sleeper-sofa (with an optional futon/mattress pad additional layer). There is an empty bookshelf, a large desk for work, a floor-to-ceiling mirror covering one wall, and a large closet (with additional shelving and hamper inside). The window gets west-facing light, and, if you'd like, you'd have several plant friends (including a gorgeous Monstera) for company.

The shared living quarters include a large and light-filled living room, a lovely kitchen with dining nook (and dishwasher), a fenced-in outdoor area, and extra storage space in a garage. On the latter feature, there is a free parking space if you own a car or motorcycle. The garage has a (coin-operated) washer and (free) clothing-dryer for laundry purposes.

Internet, electricity, and the aforementioned parking space and garage storage are INCLUDED in the listed price.

Some random notes:
-Most of the apartment is hardwood floors, with tiling in kitchen.
-This is a chill neighborhood and building, with tenants who adhere to 'quiet hours' of (approximately) 10pm to 7am. But we are a stone's throw from plenty of great bars and restaurants in the Grand Ave/Lakeshore Oakland business districts.
-On the above point, I can't over-emphasize how centrally located the neighborhood is: a 15-minute walk from the Piedmont shopping district, a quick bus ride (NL/12/57 on AC Transit) to Temescal or Downtown Oakland, and immediate access to the hip small-businesses in the Grand Lake district, including (naturally) the stunning and picturesque Lake Merritt --which is an amazing jogging path (~3 miles) if you're a runner like me.
-Trader Joe's and Safeway are both a 10 minute walk. There's a Whole Foods that's about 20 minutes walking. (Obviously all much more accessible by car/bus.)
-This is the ground-floor of a two-bedroom building, which resembles an old-school motel on the outside.

About This Lister

I'm a 44 year-old straight CIS male, multi-ethnic (Thai/Irish) who is away from the apartment more often than not. I work at an academic institution in San Francisco, commuting to the office four-days-a-week, and am generally gone 7:30am to 6:00pm during those days. (I work remote from home one day a week.)

As you can see from the photos, I love books, plants, and art. My tastes are broad, eclectic, and endlessly curious. I'm exceptionally clean: I don't expect my roommate to be as fastidious, but they should be responsible for their own dishes/clutter/etc. I'm a huge cinephile, and --though I don't own a television-- I have a projector/screen that's easy to setup. When I watch movies in the evening, I have headphones I can wear to keep noise down. I took up both craft cocktails and pour-over coffee during the pandemic, and have apparatus for both which I'd happily share.

I have an active lifestyle (running, weightlifting, rowing) and numerous intellectual interests. I'm well-traveled and have worked in multiple different careers (including the military, nonprofits, the public sector, and academia). I'm a veteran of Burning Man and similar festivals, but I promise it's not of the insufferable tech-bro stereotype. I love exploring various meetups and gatherings in this vibrant and diverse Oakland community.

I do occasionally go out on weekends and intermittently entertain guests. I'm a considerate and communicative person and seek a roommate who can reciprocate those qualities.

Lister's Relationship to the Space

Rental requirements

-I'm requesting $750 security deposit, which can be returned within a week's time, contingent on no damage to the room/unit.
-Three non-negotiable qualities for rooming here: someone who is clean, considerate, and communicative.
-If you're interested, please email me with a short message describing yourself, your livelihood, general interests, and any other pertinent details for a potential roommate.
-I'd request a copy of your identification and several character references.
-I can formalize all the above in a written agreement.

Pets Policy

-I shared a small dog with my previous roommate, so could be amenable to pets with specific (mellow, low-maintenance) temperaments and behavior. (Please no yappy dogs or cats who like to scratch furniture.)
