We're heading out of town for the summer and looking for someone to sublet our place at Payson and Dyckman in Inwood. It's a large one-bedroom with a study in a prewar building directly across from Inwood Hill Park, Manhattan's last old-growth forest.

The apartment gets glorious afternoon light through huge windows facing the park. Hardwood floors and high ceilings. There's a proper living room with a couch, a small dining table with Modernica chairs, a turntable and records, and a ceiling-mounted projector if you want to watch movies on the pull-down screen. The study is attached to make a large open-plan kind of L-shape; it has bookshelves, a desk, a (fake) Eames lounge, more plants than is probably reasonable, and a good reading lamp. It's a great place to work or just relax. The bedroom is painted a deep teal/blue with built-in closets and a tall dresser, and the kitchen is a galley with granite counters, a gas range, and a real collection of cookbooks if you're into that sort of thing. Classic (simple) black-and-white tile bathroom with a tub.

Elevator building, laundry in basement, live-in super (Alfredo) and friendly neighbors, pets ok! Two good air conditioners.

The neighborhood is relatively quiet for Inwood, but is also just two blocks from the A train at Dyckman and ten minutes' walk to the 1. Door-to-door time to Columbia is 30 mins; 40 mins to Washington Square Park; Brooklyn Museum 1hr.

About This Lister

We're tenants in this rental-only building. Both academics. Both pretty tidy--the place will be clean when you get it, and we'll expect it to be clean when we get it back--but we're not insane about cleanliness. I am pretty committed to keeping the plants alive, though.

We've lived here for four years, and really love the place. Want to hand it off to someone for the summer to someone who can enjoy it!
