Welcome to a quiet house with friendly landlords on a truly neighborly block. This high-ceiling apartment is on the second floor at the front of the house. It features large, bright living room, eat-in kitchen, alcove bedroom, and bathroom.
Living Room
The barrel-front windows bring in plenty of afternoon sunlight, perfect for plant lovers. The space is 12" x 15" so it easily fits a full-sized seating area along with a desk.
Bathroom
Enjoy a tile large shower in a bright, newly-renovated bathroom. Fixtures are all less than 3 years old.
Eat-In Kitchen
The Euro-style kitchen includes a retro blue fridge, butcher block counter tops, and open shelves. There is a microwave and induction hot plate; there is not a full stove/oven. The kitchen has plenty of space for a small table, and additional shelves or counters if you wish.
Bedroom
The bedroom is small -- just 7" x 11", but will fit up to a queen-sized bed. The only closet in the apartment is located in the bedroom. It has shelves, but is not very deep so cannot accommodate a standard hanging bar.
Laundry
Shared laundry is being installed in the basement.
Utilities included in rent:
* Radiant heat
* Electricity powered by solar panels
* Verizon Fios WiFi
You will have no additional utilities unless you elect to install your own dedicated WiFi.
The apartment has new windows, new insulation, and many upgrades. There's a large skylight -- original to the house -- just outside your apartment door that floods the stairwell with light.
Flexibility with the Lease
This listing is for an unfurnished apartment, but we are also willing to consider renting it furnished, as shown in the photos for a small increase in the rent. We are also open to leases shorter than one year for a small adjustment of the rent.
The House & Location
The apartment is on the top floor of a two-story brick row house with a basement, on East 32nd Street between Snyder and Tilden. Entry involves a half flight of stairs to the front door and a full flight up to the second-floor apartment. The front door and the apartment door have electronic locks. Another tenant also lives on this floor.
Tenants are welcome to enjoy the front garden—whether sitting on the stoop or tending a small gardening plot (if that’s your thing).
Transit & Parking
The 2/5 trains are just a five-minute walk away at either Church Avenue or Beverley Road (we recommend Beverley—it’s calmer and less crowded). The B35 and B44 buses are within two blocks, and a Citibike rack is one block away. Street parking is usually manageable.
Community
The block is especially known for its warmth. Many residents are first- and second-generation Caribbean families. Don’t be surprised if people greet you with a “good morning” or “good evening.” This block has a long-active neighborhood association—Tilder Block Association—which has won awards in the Greenest Block in Brooklyn contest multiple times. Expect gardening opportunities, casual stoop hangouts, fish fries and curry-ques, plus annual traditions like the block party and apple cider pressing. Neighbors range from babies to 90-year-olds, and everyone looks out for one another.
The House’s Character
Built about 125 years ago, the house has all the charm (and quirks) of its age: original woodwork, a carved wooden foyer door, moldings, and original skylights. Alongside that charm come the creaks and groans of old stairs and some worn details. It’s all part of the experience—and if you appreciate that mix of history and character, we’d love for you to apply.
We, your landlords, Anthony (he/him) and Kristin (she/her), are friendly and responsive. We consider this our home, and are the contacts for the tenants. We’re makers who run a creative e-commerce business, Brooklyn Haberdashery. We live on site part time, and our adult child (they/them) also lives on site. We’ve rented this apartment on Airbnb in the past, where we’re Superhosts with a perfect 5.0 rating.
If you are interested in the apartment, you may schedule a viewing, which will be conducted by the landlord. We require an application, references, and credit check.
Security deposit and one month's rent are due at lease signing.
The apartment is available immediately.
1-2 cats are allowed with pet deposit of $150. We are also supportive of you fostering cats and Flatbush Cats is very active in our area.
