Private room in peaceful second floor apartment. Free rent, utilities, good wifi connection and filtered water in exchange for help with my sweet dog, Ishby, and some help with basic things after hip surgery.
(Dates can start / end a little earlier, most important is the full month of October. If you can commit to October and need to move in mid-September, that may be OK).
I'm having hip surgery October 9th, and have one other roommate for October, but she goes to sleep early and will be out at work from early morning - early evening Monday - Friday, maybe with a few days off.
*I'm looking for someone who can commit to being here all the time that the other roommate isn't here. (Starting October 8th, before then no problem to go out / come back whenever)*
Before my surgery I can do some of Ishby's walks and feedings, but will be needing to get more sleep, and appreciate help with some of Ishby's stuff, between you and my other roommate, who can also help with Ishby when she's not at work.
*But after surgery I don't want to be alone, I'll be resting a lot but need someone here for basic assistance and to make sure my dog doesn't jump on me or get anxious / confused if she's alone and shut out of my room.*
She interprets doing stretches on the floor as an invitation to play, and gets anxious left alone and messes up her skin / feet.
Ishby is an adorable, gentle, loving soul. Never ever aggressive with people, and with dogs she only wants to play, but she doesn't like to be barked at. She gets along great with other dogs who are easygoing and don't mind her awkward play style.
(Some dogs here love Ishby, and it's easy to keep her away from the dogs who don't, since it's more spacious than the narrow, crowded streets of Manhattan or Brooklyn.)
We're in eastern Queens, with nearby green spaces, an outdoor mini-gym, near the Queens Farm Museum. It's more quiet and peaceful out here than other parts of NYC.
The apartment has a terrace, comfy living room, small but big enough kitchen, bathroom with shower and bathtub, A/C in the living room, and a zillion channels on the TV in the living room. Small washer/dryer in the kitchen, and good water filter. Not much space for lots of stuff, but there's an attic you could potentially use for storage.
The extra room is small, with desk, window, bookshelf. The room can fit a mattress or air mattress on the floor, I have an extra (clean) mattress. The living room couch has a pull out futon also.
Public transit accessible to Manhattan / other boroughs. Express buses to Manhattan stop nearby, also buses that go to the E / F trains, and the Long Island Railroad Queens Village stop is apx 3 miles away. During the week some buses drop off right here, later nights and weekends the closest bus stop is a little less than a half mile away. (Union Turnpike)
Union Turnpike has some stores, restaurants, buses. Beautiful Alley Pond Park is nearby.
I have a bike you're welcome to ride. (It may need some repair / tires inflated / seat raised)
(But it wouldn't be a good fit for someone who wants to be out a lot in October or has commitments that can't be done remotely. That said, if you coordinate with my roommate there will be some times it's not necessary to be here, but please be here at nights when she's sleeping and the days she's at work.)
Second floor apartment, carpeted staircase with railing, one flight of steps up. Grab bars on the doorway and in the bathroom.
Start and end dates can be flexible and include September and November - main thing is I'll need help from October 8th - end of October.
I'll also need help with Ishby's walks and feedings in November when I won't be able to bend down, so if you want to stay for November that's fine (*and you could move into a larger room then*), but also fine if you can just stay for October and I can look for someone else later on.
I'm respectful, easygoing, and will be profoundly grateful for your help.
If you love dogs and can commit to this timeframe, I look forward to hearing from you!
I'm 50 years young, easy to get along with. I don't mind clutter but will keep the common spaces / kitchen clean. I love nature, learning, reading, writing, getting to know interesting people, building bridges between ideas, music, dancing (looking forward to being more active after surgery!), and of course, dogs.
There are some musical instruments here (Vast handpan, Djembe drum, singing bowls, and piano (not recently tuned).
I'm the contact person, usually reachable later afternoons - evenings.
Preferable to not have a pet of your own, as there's already two dogs here, but open to a well-trained, very easygoing, female dog. It's a pet-friendly area, and Ishby gets along good with (some) other dogs, but she doesn't like to be barked at.
