We're open to a number of different kinds of housemates—other than the kind of roommate who watches a lot of TV in the living room with the sound blaring through the walls: our loft is blessed with a southern exposure and looks out over a church as well as some kind of Jesus Grotto in the church courtyard, and the sounds you're most likely to hear (outside, that is; lots of music played inside) are the bells of the church or the splash of water in the grotto, so why ruin that with some Kardashian Reality-TV vocal fry?

It's a great place to chill out in, and since we're right in between the Montrose and Morgan Ave. stops on the L, there are any number of opportunities for diversion right down the street (or hell, down the hall: we're blessed with lots of friendly neighbours).

I'm a middle-aged academic and a committed tidier, but anegligent duster.

Reading and listening to music are two of my favorite things to do; watching TV tends to get in the way of that, so I prefer to live without too much TV/social media blare. That said, I like to watch videos or listen to podcasts while I'm getting ready for the day in my bedroom, and I do try to herd friends and roomies together from time to time to watch movies/shows/sports.

But the living room is best for reading, making/listening to music, or chatting with friends and neighbours, and so if music is already playing, I hope it’s not too much to ask you to use headphones for things like social media audio/video doomscrolling, telephone conversations (speakerphone conversations are the bane of my existence), and talk radio/podcasts.
