We are a 7-person home looking for a long-term house mates for August 1st.
70 sq ft - Photos 1/2
$595/mo
security deposit of $695.
This room is about 70 sq ft (9.5’ x 6.5’). While the room is small it has high ceilings, a closet with access to the roof and a large south-facing window.
**** note: The security deposit reflects the original rent agreement at the start of the lease over 10 years ago. In recent years, we've adjusted the rent of each room to reflect the square footage, but the deposit remains the same.

Our home is a three-story, seven-bedroom brownstone located five blocks from the Kingston-Throop C and Kingston 3 trains.
The first floor is where our big common spaces are – living room, kitchen, pantry, guest room, and bike storage. The second and third floors house all the bedrooms as well as a spare storage/ crafts room. Each floor has a full bathroom. Our backyard has a patio, maple trees, and lots of shady places to read, have lunch, or parties. There’s also a garden in front. We prefer to keep our home smoke-free, but there are plenty of places to smoke outdoors.
On an accessibility note there are two sets of stairs to get into the house. To enter the house at ground level, there is one step down.
We have a house bank account and make individual deposits to cover our monthly bills and bulk pantry groceries ($125/mo). We have room for personal and shared groceries in our kitchen. Each housemate is tasked with spending $50/mo independently on collective groceries, staples like rice, eggs, milk, butter, produce or dry goods so we can sustain each other.
Sharing groceries helps us to build community with one another, alleviate food waste, and enjoy consistent access to healthy dishes and produce.
We are a group of conscious and intentionally-minded folks working on finding better ways of existing and moving through the world and challenging histories of oppression each in our own individual ways. We are all in our late-20s/early-30s. The strength of our community depends upon honest, direct communication. We are committed to facing our role in gentrification as a violent process and considering ways to do justice by our neighbors. We recognize Crown Heights’ history, and support a sustainable relationship with our community. We're committed to making our home a space for queer and trans people and people of color, and we do not tolerate any racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or xenophobia in our home (current house members include queer and trans people and people of color).
Our house has existed as a cooperative for about 10 years. With each new iteration of the house, we undergo a period of change and each year, we take time to figure out what it means to share food, space, and live collectively. We strive to make decisions democratically, keep a stocked pantry, share group meals, split communal groceries and utilities, and meet regularly. In our meetings, we share a meal, reflect on accountability, practice decolonized communication, address bills and otherwise together.
