I am looking for a roommate to rent one of two bedrooms in my apartment in Brooklyn. I am the owner of the building and I rent both bedrooms separately.

You will share the apartment common space (including the yard) with one other person. She is a 26 year old law student and spends most of my time with my head in the books. She also frequents the Brooklyn Museum and enjoys trying happy hour spots around the city on weekends. Because of her studies, and to keep her mind clear, she feels it is important to keep a clean and organized and harmonious home.

Both bedrooms are actually very large with 2 windows, a decorative fireplace and mantel, and lots of closet space.

I give some details below, so that you can get a better sense of the space, but basically there will be two people (you and one other roommate) who will share the space from day to day (2 FULL FLOORS AND A BACKYARD IN A BROOKLYN TOWNHOUSE). It is the perfect scenario for someone who doesn't mind having a roommate but doesn't want to live in a small box or to far from the NYC scene. The place is literally huge. And the backyard is beautiful.

---------------DETAILS--------------

THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Bedford Stuyvesant is one of the largest neighborhoods in Brooklyn. This area is on the cusp where Clinton Hill meets Bedford Stuyvesant and where you'll find a host of charming bars, cafes, restaurants and coffee shops. The house is located on a tree lined street that has a strong sense of community among people of all ages and backgrounds. It's a short walk to the G, A and C train, 30 minutes to Manhattan, and walking distance to multiple parks. The Bedford YMCA, Artshack pottery and other active hubs of community life are a short jaunt in either direction.

THE HOUSE
4 floors and a finished basement. 2 apartments (2 floors each). Landscaped backyard (Apartment 1)

APARTMENT 1 (ground floor, parlor floor, and backyard)
2 bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms, 2 floors, 2 entrances, private furnished lush backyard.

GROUND FLOOR - BEDROOMS
On the ground floor you will find two king sized bedrooms, the primary bathroom and the ground floor entrance.
OCCUPIED UNFURNISHED FRONT BEDROOM - 156 sqft (12'x13') with 12 ft accordion closets $2200/ MONTH
AVAILABLE PRIMARY BEDROOM - 228 sqft (19'x12') with 91 sqft (7'x13') Walk In California Closet and direct backyard access.

APARTMENT 1 SHARED SPACE
THE PRIMARY BATHROOM is located on the ground floor and has a 6' spa tub, heated towel rack and rain head shower.
THE PARLOR FLOOR LIVING ROOM AND DINING ROOM have original details, hardwood floors, 16ft high ceilings, French-door apartment entrance, and an open floor plan that lets lots of light flow through the living room and kitchen.
THE KITCHEN has a center island with bar style seating, pantry storage and a back door with easy access to the backyard patio which is great for entertaining.
Just off the kitchen, before you go downstairs you will find a CONVENIENT HALF BATHROOM.
THE YARD
The backyard has two separate seating areas surrounded by lush perineal greenery. The main area is a wood patio with rattan sectional seating. You can follow a flagstone path around to the back of the patio, where there is another more intimate built in seating area. The yard can be accessed directly from doors in the primary bedroom downstairs, or the kitchen upstairs.

APARTMENT 2 IS OCCUPIED (upstairs, two top floors of the house) - 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living room and kitchen.

In addition to two apartments in the house, there is a separate furnished basement, where my partner lives. HE USES THE GROUND-FLOOR ENTRANCE, AND IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MAKING SURE EVERYTHING IS RUNNING SMOOTHLY IN THE HOUSE.

About This Lister

My name is Lena. I am an Adjunct Professor at FIT teaching Knitwear Design which is one of my creative passions. I also enjoy making and teaching Ceramics at Artshack Brooklyn, which is a couple of blocks from the house.

I would say I am a laid back person who appreciates a harmonious life that balances family, friends, and creativity. I also love to travel and like to learn new things.

I have a daughter who recently graduated college. After living in Brooklyn for over 20 years, my daughter and I now stay in Manhattan. Being a single parent, who was born and raised in New York City by a single mother, I feel some civic responsibility to rent to single women whenever possible.

I have always rented rooms in the upstairs apartment in Brooklyn. Now that I have moved to Manhattan, I rent out the downstairs apartment where I used to stay with my daughter and my partner. I rent both rooms separately to make the space more affordable and accessible.

Lister's Relationship to the Space

Owner

Rental requirements

I require one month security, plus first months rent to move in.
Owner responsible for water and gas.
Renters (2 roommates) responsible for splitting electricity and wifi charges.
(the basement is on a separate circuit/ electricity meter.)
Each room is intended for one person so that the apartment is a two person share.
Because both bedrooms in the apartment are rented separately, you are not responsible for the entire rent if your roommate moves out. Instead I do my best to include my current tenant in the rental process and looking for a compatible roommate.
