Character is everything…

This is a hands-in-the-dirt workshop led by two facilitators—Ami Lum and Kana Felix—who know how to push, hold, and elevate writers. We'll dive deep into what character truly is: how to build compelling characters from scratch, know them inside and out, and make them resonate with your audience. You'll walk away with at least one fully realized character you can't stop thinking about.

Who is this for?: If you keep getting notes that your characters are "flat," "unbelievable," or "boring"—this is for you. If you're struggling with any aspect of your screenplay, this is also for you (because it usually means you haven't found the root of your character). And if you're brand new to screenwriting, character should be your foundation. You're in the right place!

Pricing: We offer tiered pricing to accommodate different budgets.

Generous Tier: $1,000 — Pays facilitators a living wage and helps us offer sliding scale access to writers facing systemic barriers to wealth.

Full Tier: $850 — Pays facilitators a living wage.

Sliding Scale Tier: $800–$600 — For writers facing systemic barriers, including those from historically marginalized communities.

About this Lister

I am a queer Filipina-American story facilitator, writer, and director. I was born in NYC and raised internationally as a "third culture kid" which greatly influences my art and business. There are infinite stories and points-of-view within each person and it's been an honor to guide screenwriters in getting their stories actualized on the page!

Background and Expertise

I have 6+ years of experience as a story analyst/script reader for top screenwriting competitions, literary management, and production companies such as: The Academy Nicholl, Paramount+, Final Draft Big Break, Alcon Entertainment, Penguin Random House, the Blacklist x Women In Film, and Sugar23. I've taught screenwriting courses at the Second City Training Center in Chicago.

I also work one-on-one with veteran and emerging screenwriters. Some of my clients include: Emmy-nominated TV writers, Emmy-nominated casting directors, staff writers on A Black Lady Sketch Show, directors who work for Nickelodeon and Jimmy Kimmel, grand prize winners of the ISA Emerging Screenwriter Competition, recipients of Netflix’s Native American Writer Accelerator Grant and Native American Media Alliance TV Writers Lab Fellows, UK's Royal Court Writers, and more!
