1 peaceful room in 3 br, Upstate Manhattan (N of 181st, lol)

Rooms for Rent

$1,082.65/month

Available

April 1, 2026

Neighborhood

Hudson Heights, Manhattan

Transportation

A train, 181st Street.

1 spacious, bright, unfurnished room in 3 bedroom apartment; shared kitchen and bathroom.
Located in the Hudson Heights area, N. of 181st.

$1082.65 plus 1 month deposit; utilities shared (usually $40-70 month).
The room is available for April 1st. We’re looking for someone mature, quiet, and clean, who wants to stay longterm, aka make a home here.

Shoes-off home.
Women preferred.
One cat lives here, so no other pets at this time.
Very quiet building.

Note: This is a 5-floor walk-up which is a challenge, BUT the perk is no one clomping around over our heads - worth every step, imo. Also, the room faces upper Fort Washington Avenue which is quiet at night, but gets traffic during the day.

Application through building management - need at least good credit, and proof of income.
Roommate agreement to be signed by all before move-in; shared expenses and cleaning to be worked out after move-in.
The actual lease for the Apartment will renew Sept. 1st and there has been a mid-range increase each year. Sigh.

The room is lovely, moldings and wood floors. It is western facing with amazing light and sunsets and a view with trees (a small family park); a short walk from great food stores, a good wine/liquor store, a local pharmacy, laundromat, and plenty of restaurants to choose from; also some of the best free libraries anywhere! AND a brief walk to the Heather Garden in Fort Tryon Park.

Yes, perhaps it feels like upstate Manhattan, BUT: We are mere seconds from the A train entrance, and the train ride is 20 minutes to Columbus Circle. Also, this is a real neighborhood where you will get to know people as you spend time here.

This is basically a space for peace and quiet.
Best for folks who are chill after 10/11pm, and who don't bring home frequent guests.
OCD levels of clean wouldn't be bad. We are very clean and mindful here.
No ciggies; but 420 and moderate drinking okay.
Still COVID Conscious - Please share your vaccination status when you inquire. (We still wear masks in some public spaces/subways etc.)
Must be up front about any sicknesses or critters that might arise, as this affects all.
We use “natural” products as much as possible, so scented products might need negotiations.
We like to look out for each other, also sometimes to make crafty things together and decorate for various holidays. Also love eating and sharing baked goods!

Note: We don't use the common space often, unless everyone is involved/okay, because sound/privacy issues due to the layout (open plan, grrr), but holiday/crafty gatherings are encouraged. Mostly we do our own thing in our own spaces, but it is nice to share a movie, a glass or a cuppa now and then.
