I am offering a 5-week creative writing class to be in meaningful community together (in person!) and have a little fun while we share work and critiques. This is geared towards professionals working on creative projects who need motivation, accountability (deadlines), and clear-eyed feedback, but it is open to anyone who wants to incorporate a creative practice.
Dates: April 1, 8, 15, 22, 29
Time: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Location: a lovely studio space/classroom in SoHo
Cost: $550
Join fellow creative professionals in the ongoing search for truth, beauty, and process (whatever those mean to you) in this 5-week creative writing workshop focused on fiction, creative nonfiction, and hybrid forms. This class is capped at 10 participants.
In this generative workshop led by writer and editor Corinne Lestch, participants will be able to submit up to 15 pages of work for feedback. Together we will analyze works in different genres—including short stories, flash fiction, memoirs and essays—to see how authors use literary techniques such as plot, dialogue, setting and point of view to hold the reader's attention and carve out meaning.
We'll also get into a flow state through free-write prompts and exercises. Participants will take away ideas for new projects, revisions on current ones, and a deep understanding of the writing process and a vocabulary for how to critique creative work. All levels welcome.
Corinne Lestch is currently at work on her first novel, and her short stories have been nominated for Pushcart Prizes. She was a staff reporter at The NY Daily News, and her essays and journalism have appeared in Bloomberg Law, The Washington Post, and The London Reader. She received her MFA in Creative Writing from Columbia University. She has taught writing at Columbia University, Borough of Manhattan Community College and The School of the New York Times.
