We are now accepting applications for the 2026 season of the Cuyama Action Fellowship! Applications are open now through Saturday, February 28th.
We are seeking artists of any discipline, with new or established social practice, to support creative community development in the Cuyama Valley. Two artists (or artist groups) will be chosen for two separate fellowships.
Funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Cuyama Action Fellowship is an opportunity for an artist or artist team of any discipline (Visual Art, Film, Music, Writing, Theater, Dance, Design, etc.) who focuses on social practice, community engagement, and relational aesthetics to support creative community development in the Cuyama Valley.
Two Resilient Cuyama Action Fellows will be selected. A fellow could be one artist or an artist team of two. Each fellowship is four weeks long, structured as a period of two weeks in the spring and two weeks in the fall of 2026. In the first 2 weeks, fellows will receive an orientation to learn about Cuyama and its residents. They will adjust the project proposals as needed and begin work on their projects. In the second two weeks, fellows will return to the Cuyama Valley to complete their proposed project. This structure gives the fellow time to readjust the project upon arrival and more time to work/prepare off-site before the completion.
Each fellow (artist or team) will receive a $7,000 artist stipend. Additionally, limited travel support is provided as reimbursement. We also allocate a limited budget for supplies.
