About this Service

Opening your own small business can be a daunting experience. There are so many questions that come up and so many ways to go about answering them. There is not one correct way to operate a business in NYC. Every location has specific conditions, every business plan is unique. I seek to help people navigate some of these challenges with one on one mentoring at the beginning phase of starting your new business. With a particular focus in holistic organic integration into a community, diverse and representative hiring practices, and creating an accessible business model that will not only be profitable but be inclusive to all walks of life. There is definitively a right way to be a good small business owner and community member, let me teach you how.

About this Lister

I am a small business owner and entrepreneur. I have lived and worked in Bushwick and then Ridgewood since 2010. My father was a small business owner in Boston and I grew up aspiring to be my own boss like him. I started out my career in NYC as a musician and a bartender. I booked and promoted my own bands for several years and started working in PR with a few agencies before launching my own tour booking company. Eventually I pivoted to owning my own venue space and went about learning the process on my own to start a new bar and venue in Ridgewood, Queens which opened in 2016 and has consistently kept it's lights on through the pandemic and many other challenges. I love what I do and I would love to be able to share my knowledge with other likeminded folks that want to build something from scratch that they can be proud of.

Background and Expertise

I graduated from Berklee College of Music with a focus in Music Business in 2005. I have 20+ years experience in the service industry and entertainment industry. I have worked in most positions in a bar or restaurant and have been booking, promoting and grant writing for emerging art spaces in Brooklyn and Queens over the last 10 years. I have opened my own bar, moved locations, and helped others navigate the process of opening. I have acquired a significant amount of knowledge navigating the inconsistencies and red tape of running a small business in NYC. I have written several business plans, grant proposals, and have unique insight into landlord/tenant legal communications and procedures. One aspect of my mission that I am particularly proud of is that my staff is predominately women and gender expansive, meaning my audio engineers and support staff are mostly women. This industry is historically male dominated and it's my particular goal to even that playing field. I am hoping that by starting to consult others I can share what has worked for me but also hope to inspire others to operate from a place of fairness, equity and inclusion.
