I have been approved for a lease starting June 1 in Crown Heights (Schenectady Ave. and Prospect Pl., right on St. John's Park). A friend has lived there for the last several years, so I have it on personal account that it's a nice place to be.
It's a 3bd/2ba on the top floor of a building with just three units (and washer/dryer split between them). The bedrooms are laid out on opposite sides of the apartment for privacy, and you'd have access to two closets, in addition to your own bathroom, if desired. I'd take the two bedrooms on the front end of the apartment, as I'm a musician (singer-songwriter, not screamo or anything ;-)) and actor and need studio space for my livelihood.
The kitchen is large, with a dishwasher and ample cabinet space, and the living room has a lovely skylight.
I am looking to lock down this lease and am looking for a second signer. See below for requirements.
I'm 35 years old, from the San Francisco Bay Area originally, though based in NYC since 2021 (and also lived here in the early-mid 2010s). I'm a singer-songwriter, actor, writer, and facilitator passionate about play as a spiritual practice and the power of participatory art and collective whimsy. I have a day job designing curriculum for and facilitating adult education programs in an alternative Jewish community based in Manhattan, as well as other gigs.
I am a collector and curator of things I love, and I regard home as a sanctuary, and a bit of a museum. I make an effort to keep common spaces tidy, but my own spaces can sometimes be messy. I don't live well with neat freaks, but I'm also not looking to live with someone who doesn't take care of our shared space. I live best with people that are conscientious, communicative, and compassionate around the fact that living with someone is an intimate experience, and that life is challenging enough without someone in your space holding you to unnecessarily high standards (or disrupting your space by not being considerate about your needs).
Because I am a musician and actor, it's important that you be someone who is open to having music in the space at reasonable hours and at reasonable volumes. I'd be interested to get an upright piano for the common space, if you're amenable to it, and would certainly have my own music equipment in my studio space and would use that for practice, auditions, and recording.
I love to cook and enjoy having people over for dinner. I'm not a big partier but don't mind having a party every once in a while. Generally enjoy being friendly with roommates (sharing a glass of wine, hanging out in the common spaces, etc.) and am open to having a real friendship with the right person. I'm an introvert and a little moody, but I'm a kind, thoughtful, and respectful person and expect the same in a roommate. I'm queer and you must be queer friendly at the least if not queer yourself.
Landlords will want to see ID, proof of income, a recent credit report (plus other financial documents you may wish to share). They're open to guarantors.
I'd be looking to find a time to meet up in person in the first week of May to see the place and discuss preferences and needs for living together in more depth.
