We're seeking a dedicated, responsible, and enthusiastic Teacher’s Assistant to work at our after-school program. Casa Lu offers children 5 to 10 years old Spanish immersion in a unique, dynamic program focused on creativity, play, learning, and, above all, fun.
The job starts Sept. 16 and lasts the full semester (at least). Teacher Assistants are in charge of school pickup, transport to the after-school program and assistance in art and cooking classes.
Position: Teacher's Assistant and School Pick-Up Helper.
Age Group: Kindergarten to 4th Grade (5 to 9 years old)
Work Schedule: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday
(possible expansion to 5 days, depending on enrollment)
Hours: 2:20 pm to 5:30 pm
Location: Park Slope & Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn
Responsibilities:
School Pick-Up and Transportation (subway fare is reimbursed):
Begin the workday by picking up children from local schools in the Park Slope/Windsor Terrace area.
Ensure the safety and well-being of children during transport, following all safety protocols and guidelines.
Provide a positive and welcoming experience for children as they transition from school to the program site.
Assist during after-school activities:
Collaborate with the teacher to assist in classroom activities, cooking and art classes.
Support the teacher in maintaining a productive and engaging learning environment.
Foster a nurturing and inclusive atmosphere that encourages children to explore, learn, and express themselves.
Cooking and Culinary Classes:
Assist with cooking classes.
Guide children in following recipes, measuring ingredients, and practicing kitchen safety.
Aid in dishwashing and cleaning up after cooking classes, ensuring a tidy and organized space.
Qualifications:
Previous experience working with children, preferably in an educational or childcare setting.
A genuine passion for child development and education.
Bilingual Spanish-English or Spanish learner at advanced level. Please don't apply if you don't speak any Spanish.
Excellent communication skills, both with children and fellow staff members.
Reliable and punctual with a strong sense of responsibility.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
Enthusiasm for hands-on activities, art, and cooking with children.
First Aid and CPR certification preferred, but not required (willingness to obtain certification is a plus).
