Hi,
I am looking for a place to do primarily hand tool woodworking, and hopefully a studio mate. A lot of traditional chair designs make very minimal use of machines, yet are still very comfortable, sturdy, and efficient to build. I'm interested in applying those traditional principles to building visually and conceptually compelling contemporary chairs.
Hand work is also nice because it produces mostly shavings and little dust, so it's healthier, and cleanup is easier.
400 square feet would be good for 2 people, with a few medium size work benches, a band saw, lathe, bench grinder, and not much else besides hand tools. I imagine having a flexible, configurable shop with the option for open floor space. And windows.
I would also be interested in renting some square footage in a commercial shop.
Please reach out if you have a creative practice that would do well in a shop like this, or if you know of suitable people / places.
I'm flexible on neighborhoods, but ideally within a 2-3 mile radius of Park Slope. Could be Sunset Park, could be Crown Heights, but probably not Deep Bushwick or Astoria. But I'm flexible.
Thanks
