Tucked away in a hidden corner of Woodstock, the Cabin has historically been a haven for a few famous musicians, writers, and arists, including Jack Kerouac, Ginsberg, Burroughs and The Band.

The previous owner (a family friend) is a character in one of Kerouac's books. He was a beatnik and himself had artistic acclaim with an amazing obit in the Times. The family before that were classical musicians. She was a concert pianist. And before that a couple who were children's book illustrators (now we are back to 1910).

Through circuitous means, I got the house in 2017. It had been empty for 10 years. It had a hole in the roof and effectively uninhabitable but I was so taken by it and I had to bring it back to life! A true labor of love. The house has some seriously good energy.

The space itself is inspiring. Serene. Calming. Lots of windows letting in soft, natural light. The house is surrounded by tall pines, oaks, willows, hemlocks, birch and beach trees.

The main space has a 22-foot ceiling. It's lofty, airy, and wonderful.

The marble countertop in the kitchen is antique and came out of a bakery in a nearby town. The timbers making up the counter were salvaged from a collapsed studio on the property.

The old claw foot tub has been reglazed and moved to the loft window where you can relax and look out at the forest.

You will likely see a fair amount of wild life. Fox, deer, chipmunks, wild turkeys and red squirrel are very common. Black bear in season. It is a great place for bird watching.

Also available for the week of Labor Day.
Please inquire about shorter term lease options
